- 5.7L Hemi
Hey guys. I have an 84 d150 with 727 trans and a 5.7L Hemi that I swapped in last fall. When the truck is cold and I have it in drive, the engine will rev up and almost have a "diesel" type sound, so I back off the gas pedal then step on it again harder and I can feel the flywheel (?) engage this time. It will not engage at a few accelerations but eventually warms up and doesn't give me a problem anymore. It has enough trans fluid and doesn't have a leak. Also, this might be related, but I can't spin my tires from a dead stop. With my old gutless 318 I could spin, but not with my 370hp fuel injected hemi. This seems strange to me. The rest of all three gears have plenty of power though. Does it sound like maybe the starter gear is engaging when it shouldn't be? This could explain the "diesel" engine sound that happens only when I have this problem?
