I have a 1985 dodge d150 with a 318 5.2l v8, I recently helped out a buddy by jumping his car, as soon as he turned the key in his car my truck shut off, I went to start it and my truck would only turn over getting no spark, and if I touch anything electrical all the lights on the dash go crazy and all light up and my electric locks don't want to go down without a push, iv replaced the ballast resistor and the coil brand new plugs wires and distributer cap and rotor, still no spark, I'm getting a ground to the ecu and the start relay on the distributor is fine, the battery and starter are fine, what could be causing these problems please help!!

do you got a test light or multi meter? best thing to do is put the key in the run position and see what fuses get power. knowing what fuses are getting power and what ones are not getting power should be able to help you track down the problem

well if your not getting power to all your fuses with the key in the run position it is possible that ecu is not getting power.

Tryed fuses it all checks out clean, followed Hanes Manuel still no dice, Is there a way to bypass or test ecu?? That's the only thing I can think of at this point

so there is power at all the fuses? no way to really bypass or test the ecu. you can remove both wire from the ballast resister and 1 of them should have full battery voltage with the key in the run position.

did you check what the voltage was going to the ballast resister? if full power is not making it there it could result in a weak spark. could also be a weak or dying coil or maybe the pickup in the distributor is out of adjustment.

I replaced the resistor and it checks out to spec, brand new coil, distributer cap and rotor, plugs and wires I think the pick up might be it, that's the only thing I havnt checked or replaced.
