Default Stock 5x7 door speaker to 6x9?
My truck has stock 5x7" door openings, it looks like Chrysler decided not to get the more expensive oval stamps and just stamp out two round holes... Anyway, was wondering what y'all have done to mount better speakers down there? My truck is noisy, it's not fancy, and I listen to rock and metal, inherently, I listen to it loudly. I don't feel like 5x7's will live up to that.

I have a dremel, and I'm not afraid to use it.

But on the other hand, I'm not sure what kind of depth I'm looking at in there. Was debating on using some raisers and just grinding out the hole enough to make 6x9's fit. I dunno though, won't that rattle the bejesus out of the door?

Frankly I'd be happy just hooking up some MTX Road Thunder truck boxes behind the seats, but no one sells them anymore, or anything like them, and the used ones aren't cheap.

why not build it out with MDF, vinyl wrap it so you have more depth and can mount a bigger speaker?

Thought about it, or getting a couple of those 6" speaker boxes they sell. Don't really want to go through that much effort, and I don't really want something sticking off the door, it'll just get the crap kicked out of it.

I was looking at some Cadence QR57K 5x7" component speakers, they're cheap enough, would be nice to at least have tweeters up above my knees.

Yup, I agree, easiest addition to do those.

since the panels have already been cut i would probably cut them out more and install some nice 6x9's and some covers. i got 6x9's in my 81 with some nice sony covers and i like them.

as far as a sub goes you are best to build your own. that is what i did for my truck

Yeah, I've thought about cutting them out, only got a dremel though. Might be a tad difficult. I don't really care about having a subwoofer in a truck, seems a bit much for such a confined space, if anything I'd just put some 6x9's behind the seats for a bit of fill.

You can get smaller subwoofer boxes. I just built it with what I had. I was planning of adding more speakers to it in the future which is why I made it a bit larger but it never happened. I am pretty happy with the sound of a subwoofer behind the seat and just the speakers in the door.

Go to Harbor Freight and get a electric cut off tool or a $12 4.5 inch grinder and make em bigger. Put 6.5s in the back and a 12inch sub and you're good.
codered likes this.

mine is 7" deep up top and 9" deep at the bottom 12.5" tall but if i was to do it all over i might make it a tiny bit shallower.
