Has anyone swapped out a 360 for a 4BT Cummins?

I personally dont think a 4bt is a good fit in a half ton truck. Your better off building a 408 stroker IMO.
4bt weigh 150lbs more then your current 360 and have about the same power
Your tired 360 is rated at 175hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. 4bt are rated at 105hp and 265 lb-ft.
It is easy to turn them up a bit but anything more then 170hp and your either spending big money or blowing it up.
350 hp and 400 lb-ft on pump gas seems like a much better option to me.

If you really want to do a 4bt swap, get a cj5 or cj7

It's actually a 1 ton dually. Auto trans. High ratio rear end....not sure about the rear end ratio but I want better MPG's and Diesel for sure. It took me awhile to get the Hemi out of my brainpan...

Does your trans have overdrive or is it just a 3-speed. Overdrive is almost mandatory with a diesel.

I think it'd be a cool swap, just don't expect it to be like a 6bt. Probably more comparable to the old gm 6.2 diesel as far as acceleration.

I don't see anything here where he is expecting massive HP...

I think a 4BT swap, running on B100 would be awesome-ness!
Funny, I was thinking about this just the other day.

I will admit, a crew cab dually might be a bit much for the little motor.
Maybe convert it to SRW and make it a short box while you're at it. SWEET!

Hate it when that happens. But you'll find another one.

4BT swaps are awesome! I would be tempted more for a 12V swap with a truck of your size though... I guess it all depends on what you are really looking to get out of your truck on what your best route would be.

I'm just want to turn it into a local hauler....its a flat bed....2-doors...no overdrive. I could get an overdrive tranny and cut the drive shaft down if I have to. Not looking for speed or a lot of HP.

Just found and od tranny behind an old dakota engine in the garage...could use that and change gears in rear end. Would that be better?
