Does anyone know if I could drop an AMC 401 into an '85 Power Ram 350 4x4? Ram currently has a 360. Could swap with or without the auto trans. Sounds like a project if I could get it to work. Thanks.

Looking at the engine, I don't see why you couldn't put it in, main issues I see being possible engine mounts and transmission stuffs. Looks very much to be the size of a 383 or 400 big block or maybe somewhere between a Chrysler bb and a sb.

So there's a chance? I know that the AMC 360/401 and Chrysler 360 are different and not a direct swap. To me it seems the motor mounts and getting motor/trans or transfer case/driveshafts/differentials to match up would be the big challenge. Also custom exhaust which is no big deal. Wondering if the electrical stuff like the relays would be a problem or could I just splice everything in? Maybe this is a crazy idea in the first place.:smokin:

We're talking about a first gen, you can swap a lot of stuff into a first gen if you have the patience. Damn engine bays are huge. The main problem that I see being a pain in the ass is the transmission situation. Everything else is just a fabrication issue.

That would be a cool project if you have the patience/budget for getting everything right.

Have you considered something like a 408 stroker kit for the 360?

I'm thinking it would easier to move the motor/trans over together instead of trying to match up the 401 with the stock trans but what then? What are the chances the driveshafts line up?

I should check out the price on that. I was thinking 401 just because I have one at my disposal. Stroker sounds a lot easier.

If you've got a trans, that'd be the way to go I'd think. Driveshafts would be different, but you can get a shaft cut down or lengthened by a drive shaft shop or maybe even mail order.

Awww, but the 401 is a stout engine and is different! :burnout:
