I have a 1985 d100 pickup with a 318. It gets horrible gas milage but runs amazing. I believe the original catalytic converter is bad and sucking my gas miliage away. I have one 26" glasspack after the converter. can I cut the cat out? What about the line or hose that is going to the cat? can I plug that or what is that line anywy and waht can I do with it. any other sugestions? open element air cleaner? thanks

You still running the stock 2BBL Holley? You can (will) see fuel mileage gains with a good 4BBL. Reason being the primaries on a 4BBL are smaller than a 2BBL and if you keep your foot off the floor you will see a gain. 2BBl has to work over a wide range so it's set up different than a 4BBL. 4BBL can work well on the low side and then open up to perform on the high end. Thermo-Quad, Rochester Quadrajet, Holley, Edelbrock, the choice is yours. I like the Quadrajet myself. Nice Edelbrock dual plane manifold.
Headers will also help. Nice cheap set of Heddmans. I paid $200 for my last set.
You still have the cat on that thing... damn. Suppose depending on your local laws you may be screwed but here it would have been gone long ago. Lose the smog pump if you have that. Remove the lines and plug the holes. Clean it up.

what type of fuel mileage are you getting? they are not really designed to get good fuel mileage. i usually average about 9-14mpg. my 93 with overdrive does a bit better when i am doing straight highway driving and can see about 15-18mpg. otherwise when i am driving around town i usually get 10mpg or less.
