Was wondering if the more knowledgable than I could help me. I am out of town for work and away from my truck and am trying to buy parts for when i get home.

How can you know what type of transmission is in the truck?

I have a 1989 D150 automatic transmission.

Any idea what model of transmission i'd have?

looking to buy the pan gasket and the output seal and need to know... hopefully its possible to know.

a filter kit should come with either gasket that you should need. it is really hard to tell what transmission you have just because of all the option that would have been available around 89. if you got the vin you could try contacting a dealer and see if your trucks info is still in the system.

There are two gasket shapes to my knowledge: 727 and A518

you are incorrect DD the 727 and a518 use the same shape pan. it is the a500/904/998/999 transmissions that use a different gasket from the 727/a518. now this list of transmissions is the reason it would be so hard to tell what transmission your truck has.

I was thinking the 727 and 518 were different. My bad.

nope. they are the ones that are the same. it is all the other ones that i am pretty sure are not the same. shouldn't make a difference anyway. like i said, a transmission filter kit should come with a gasket to replace either type.

Thanks gentlemen.

I didnt know the filter came with both so that will work.

Got a ton of parts coming from RockAuto now! :)

transmission parts, steering components, valve cover caskets, bushings, and then some! can't wait to get home and work on it again!
