I have a 92 w150 and the speedometer doesn't work. It hasn't worked since I got the truck. I replaced the vehicle speed sensor but that didn't help. Could it be the speedometer itself since the odometer isn't working either? Should I fix the speedometer or would it be easier to just put a tach in it and run about 2G?

I would think that your speedo might be cable driven not sure tho.

No its not cable driven because thats what i thought and I looked and looked for the cable when I changed the vehicle speed sensor and there isn't one on the speedo either

There should be a cable that leads from the back, driverside of the transmission to the back of the speedometer. I bet that it is there and that it is broken. Or maybe the reason it doesn't work is because the cable is just missing. Maybe someone took it off and never put it back on.

No I'm sure its not cable driven because on the cable driven speedometers the VSS has a spot for the cable to screw into and this one doesn't. I had the gauge cluster out today to verify that there was no cable connection on either end and there isn't. One of my buddies has a first gen and he said there was a little gear in the speedometer itself that commonly breaks, thats what happened to his and when I took apart my speedo sure enough the gear was broken, had less teeth than a kentucky crack *****. :signs8::anitoof:

The problem is the small speedo gears inside the cluster. Easy fix. On another forum they have a sticky for it and a link to purchase the repair part.

I know this is an older thread, but I just hopped into my truck the other day and noticed I didn't have a speedo anymore either. When I bought the truck it worked fine and I've put another 200 miles on the truck since I've had it. But like I said, I hopped in the other day and was driving down the road to check my speed and noticed it was still on zero. I haven't checked into it yet as I haven't had time, but the problems I should be looking for are the cluster gears or a cable?

I am learning about dodges, but on the passenger side of the transmission unit is a thick cable that goes into the tranny, it could be as simple as being disconnected. The one I am working on was really loose..

I have an 86 d100 that speedometer is cable driven. I took the instrument panel out to put in a new gear shift indicator. I cannot seem to get the cable out of the dash to hook up to instrument panel/speedo because there is not enough slack, and the cable will not come out any further. Is there a way to get more slack/loosen so I can get the cable back in instrument panel?

I've got the same thing going on in my 93, anyone have a link to get the gear that goes in the back of the cluster?
