Default Question for ya!
Who is the original equipment manufacturer of the coolant temp sensor?? It's in a 2000 Ram 1500 Van 5.2lt. Got a 192F thermostat in it (maybe 6 months old), was at 45mph the other night, ambient temp was about 55F, coasting downhill but never dropped below 196F, water pump is still shiny it's only about 1 1/2 yrs old. Radiator is full, as well as the over flow jug (well over flow at 1/2) Using a code reader to view 'Live Data', does it sound like a sticking t-stat or a bad cheap, aftermarket, chinese, engine coolant sensor (not sure of the manufacturer) Thinking about replacing both, because they're a real pain to get to (van) I want to replace them with original equipment!

i don't think there is such thing as a 192* thermostat. as far as i know they come in 160, 180 and 195 so if your engine is running at 196* all the time then that is fine. if you wanted it to run cooler you would have to drop a 180* thermostat in.

Double checked with the parts store, they carry a 160F, 180F, 192F, and a 195F. I've def got the 192F in it. It takes about 4hrs to replace the t-stat, and the 'CTS' is right beside it. Yes, 4 hours, remember VAN, I swear there is an engine under that hood! The other day it shot up to 205F, running at high temps isn't good on the gasket sealant 'High Tack', got up to 220 once and it leaked like hell, don't want that again.

i still don't know if i would trust a 192 thermostat to really open at 192*. i bet they are probably just 195* thermostats stamped with 192. i usually use high temp gasket sealant and never had an issue even when my engine was at 250*+. have you flushed the cooling system? if you are running warm i would guess something is not working properly.
