I recently bought an 86 d100 and want to convert the drum brakes to disc brakes. Has anyone ever done it?

yup. they have conversion kits available for pretty much any dodge axle available. you just need to figure out what axle you have

It’s been 5 years since you posted this regarding rear disc conversion. How did it go? Where did you find a kit? I recently bought a 86 D100 and want to do the same

like Crazzywolfie said, circa 2015, figure out which axle you have and find a kit for the axle.

my 92 9.25 rear end drum backing plates were identical to my 72 8.75 rear end. I used a 1969 dodge charger rear disc conversion on my 72 rear end. so that should theoretically fit a 92. but you have to figure out which rear end you have and work backwards from there.
