Looking at a 2014 6.4. I know that was the first year for the 6.4 and I'm always a little leery of buying the first year of anything. Are there any problems associated with the 2014?

Some 6.4L trucks produced between June and October of 2014 were equipped with defective engines so check the production date.

Other than that I had NO problems with my 2014 6.4L Hemi powered Ram.

I had the first one out of my local dealership in March of 2014. I've been on this board since then and wouldn't say the early ones had any more problems than later trucks. But I know what you mean about first year models.

Mine's been pretty decent, I suppose. My tranny blew @ 38K miles and was rebuilt under warranty so that was a bit odd. Completely stock truck and it just failed while sitting in traffic one day. Other than that my thermostat went out and I got an error message.

wasn't 2014 the only year for the 6.4 that the ECU wasn't locked? I could be wrong.

that atleast would be a bonus rather than a negative, if you want to use a tuner.

I picked mine up in February ‘14. Had a couple recall things done. My first real problem happen last week(63K miles). The passenger side windshield sprayer hose is either loose or broken somewhere. Very little pressure on the driver side, nothing on the passenger slide, and it leaves a little puddle of wiper fluid when I try to use it.

I purchased mine new. The biggest problem I have had is the 9 recalls. We can all say that isn't a big deal but it sure is inconvenient. The only thing out of the ordinary is I had to replace the oil pressure sending unit at 38,000 miles. Seems to be a common problem on FCA vehicles and I would think they would change vendors. Just one other note- the leather seats get really hard on the ass when traveling long distances.

I believe that's correct.

that is correct. I had no problem loading canned and custom tunes to my 2014 from the I2. No new PCM or PCM unlock was required.

I got mine in January '15 and have no real complaints. Everybody is correct in that this is the only year you can tune without changing the PCM, which is a big unexpected bonus to me. I was also able to get the tire pressure monitor adjusted, though from what I've read dealers aren't allowed to do that to any trucks anymore. My only issue concerns almost all new vehicles- you can barely do more than adjust the seat without needing a dealer to add an option code!

If I could convince the wife I would.
I could trade mine in on a 2018 CTd, same trim, either crew or mega and my payments would drop 100$ and I would have a new truck.

Wife won’t let me atm...she doesn’t want 5-6 more years of payments. If they would stack 0%apr with the rebates she would let me. But they say they won’t, so we will see what the future holds.

Yeah I tried like hell to get them to give me 0%! They say they just can't do it on HD Trucks.
