After watching it, I will have to agree with you. That truck was pretty loaded.

I can't justify 3k for gears .. cause that puts me 7k away from a diesel lol

Yeah, and you probably won't get that money back on resale either.

Hopefully by then, Ram would have gotten smart and put an 8 speed with the 6.4. Then it would be flying up the Ike.

I hear it is coming but I've heard a lot on the Detroit streets that never materialized.

Anyone remember the old two-speed drivelines? I had an Internation Harvester dually pickup back in the late 60s with a two-speed driveline. The perfect solution to a problem.

I'm not sure why they expected any better outcome then last time since essentially it's still the same truck. I've also seen comments on Allpar that a new trans is coming with the next generation. Let's hope.

If Ram puts a 8 speed behind a gas HD, it will have to be a new or upgraded transmission as all the 8sp, including the 90, are not rated for the GCWR of the HD trucks and are barely rated for the GCWR of the 1500 trucks.

Both 70 & 90 rated for max GCWR of 16,000 in current offerings.

So, unless I misunderstood, their methodology is to just hold it to the floor and let the truck figure it out. I also get it that it's the same for all trucks, but would the outcome be any different if they "drove" the truck, meaning utilize the shift buttons and manage the throttle. Not beefing, just wondering.

I can't stand listening to any of those guys. I only watched for that cowgirl. What ever happened to her?

I don't think it would have been much better because of the gear spacing and torque management. It looks like it just sits at a certain rpm like the "gear hold" feature is active.

I didn't see any issues in the video. I pull that hill often with my 2014 crewcab 8' bed, 6.4, 4x4, 3.73's and 8000 lb. trailer with another 1200 lbs. in the truck bed.
I pass many loaded vehicles with no problem. The guys with the diesel pickups can pass me if they want to but they seldom do. Put a tuner and pull that hill at max load and you can eat a tranny or overhead the motor pretty easy.

They beefed up the 8spd for duty in the new Dodge Demon handling up to 840hp and 770 ft/lbs of torque so they have the know-how. And the trans is at least strong enough to handle the HD 6.4L.

Mass producing it is another story I guess. Can't get it into these trucks soon enough. Could be as simple as engineering a stronger parking pawl to hold the weights?

Not sure how a custom tune and gears are going to eat the tranny-
With 488"s you could prolly hold third instead of 2nd and the tune should help the motor a little more- that tranny takes the 800ftnof torque the diesel puts through it just fine. But then again - to each their own.

The bigger internals of the 68rfe are behind the diesel though.

That's the exact reason I traded my '16 6.4 in for a '17 CTD - Haven't ever looked back - The torque and power difference is amazing with the CTD!!!
