Got a new 2500 Laramie on order and wondering if any of you guys out there with new HDs would mind taking a measurement of your truck from the ground to the top of the door sill (let's say where the front most part of the driver's seat is). Looking for guys who have 18 inch wheels and close to or completely stock size tires. My wife already complains about climbing into our leveled 1500 lol and Im wondering what the difference in step in height will be between the two. I did not order the truck with side steps so I might have to pick some up before its delivered. I think I saw somewhere its about 28 inches to the sill on the stock HDs?

Ive also heard some stuff out there that the Hemi trucks sit a little higher than the Cummins trucks, and the new Offroad package on the '17s actually makes the trucks sit an inch or two higher up front? Any clue if there's truth in those things? I know they have like 30 different part numbers for coils so not sure if a certain configuration might make a difference... Would love to hear from any guys who have actually taken measurements or at least seen a couple examples side by side.

I'll try to remember to take a measurement when I get to the truck. I went from a 2015 1500 Express CC to a 2017 2500 6.4 CC and I can tell you it's significant. That's why I kept the steps from my 1500. You couldn't always go check them out at a dealer.

Looks to be 28" to the door sill, just in front of the seat. BTW, I have the OEM 18" wheels.

My '16 standard cab 4x4 is 23 inches at the bottom of the door, with 18" wheels. The OEM steps are 17". The wife at 5' 1" has a stretch just reaching the grab handle..

I'm 6'1" and my wife is 5'11". Going from my 1500 to my 2500, with stock 20" wheels/tires, was a big difference. I ordered steps for it within two weeks of buying the truck as getting in was beginning to be a PITA especially when in the snow/ice. I'm only 47 so I'm not old, steps are a must have to me.

I added OEM steps to my 1500. When we were trading it in, they did not list the steps on the write up fr the 1500. As we were just about to finalize the deal, I told them I need steps. They balked. I said, look , I can't get in and out of the damn thing. I didn't care if they threw them in or removed them from the 1500. They pulled the truck in the back and had a tech pull them and put them in the bed of the new truck.

Thanks for the fast responses. My 1500 has Bilsteins set at 2.8 and the sill is just under 26 inches. So I might be ordering some steps soon lol.

Just as a side note... it makes no sense to me why on Rams website they say the overall height of a 2500 is less than a 1500.... the 2500 it says, I think, 77.7 inches and the 1500 is over 78 or something. Wtf.

Steps are a must, especially if you're already worried about it. I never thought about it, but got some anyways (wife was pregnant too, but it made it a lot easier for me also).

Go with Amps, pricey but get the look of no steps, and the convenience of having them....

I'm 6'1 with long legs and I ordered steps after a week. It's a big step and a pull on the oh **** handle to get in without.

Yup, I went from a 1500 with OEM wheel to wheel steps to a 2500 with no steps.

I'm 6'1" and its a big step without, wife is 5'3" she was... lol

So I swapped 1500 wheel to wheel steps first, but it didnt help much. They set close to the body and also only have a front and rear support.

I found a OE HD wheel to wheel set and they sit a few inches lower and have three supports. No more complaints from wife.

I try to keep my wife pregnant because it's fun to watch her hoist herself up in my truck :naughty:

I would love to get the Amps but I dont know if they are in the budget right now. Part of me says just do it since youll be spending 500 or so on Mopar steps anyway, but IDK. I might end up just dealing with no steps for a few months and then get some Amps. As long as my wife can get in without killing herself.

Anyone know where to get a good price on the Amp steps?

I had a ram 1500 with OEM tires [20 inch] and my wife ( 5'5") needed to step on that truck. When I got my 2500 ram [ 18 inch stock tires] I found it to be definitely much higher than my 1500. I am a tall individual and I need the steps on my ram 2500.

I will eventually get Amps. I found OEM steps on Craigslist locally for $250. Moved them over to the 2500. They'll work until I can get Amps.

Yeah, I scored my wheel to wheel steps off CL for $100. I find that I use the bed side end pretty often.

Do the AMPs go wheel to wheel?

The Amps only cover the length of the cab. Wheel to wheel would be nice. Dunno what Im going to do right now.
