Hey guys,

Just curious on this one. Anyone know what brand/type of oil the factory fill is?

Reason i ask is the owners manual says to use synthetic i believe, yet when i go back to the dealer in the next few months i have to pay extra for synthetic, it's not included in my free oil change.

Seems not right to me. The dealer should be using what the manual calls for, correct?

Thanks

Pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-40 is factory oil and meets the ms-12633 spec they require i believe the dealer is full of it if your truck has the 6.4 they know that and it covers the free oil change. I had 0 issue of the first oil change from the dealer using the correct oil. They had a service in the database specifically for the 6.4 oil change

You would have to check with the dealer, but you probably only have to pay extra if your vehicle does not require synthetic but you want to upgrade to it. More than likely they will use Mopar 0W-40 Synthetic & from what I have been told, it is Pennzoil put in the Mopar bottle.

Ok, sounds good, thanks guys. I will clarify that with them before i let them change it. I was hoping that would be the case. If they are going to give me a free oil change, they better use the correct oil (synthetic)

I happen to have my 2017 User Guide here in front of me at work. For thee 6.4 it states, "We recommend you use SAE 0W-40engine oil meeting the requirements of FCA Material Standard MS-12633 for use in all operating temperatures."

I did see a requirement to use Synthetic for the 3.0 diesel and the 6.7 in some conditions, but none for the 6.4.

Interesting, I thought it said to use synthetic? I'll have to double check. Thanks
