I had decided on toyo mts for my truck but got to reading about on road performance. I like the aggressive look and off road capability but worry about these in the rain on the road. My wife drives the truck alot and I would hate for her to have an accident because I got tires that hydroplane too easily.
Would I be better off with an all terrain? I really like the Cooper st Maxx but it is pretty aggressive also.

I've got the Cooper STT Pro's & have zero problems with hydroplaning/ handling in rain.

I have had M/T's for the last 10 years and no issues with rain here in FL. It doesn't make any sense there would be issues with such deep tread, just my experience though, not looking to get sued for bad advice. Lol....

I have zero real world experience with mid tires. Just going by what people tell me and I read. :roflsquared:

Better safe than sorry. I see a lot of wives complaining about noise from mud tires and exhausts and guys are having to switch them out. The a/t would probably be a wise decision my friend!

MT's usually have larger blocks, while that sounds good it poses a problem down the line with wear. As they wear the large blocks create larger flat areas, which is why tires hydroplane. A/T tires usually have many large blocks but are usually half the size of the block on a M/T. Both tires are great in the rain when new, but the A/T's will shine better down the road.

Ive had 3 sets of Terra Grapplers, and until they are worn all the way smooth they are amazing in the rain. As well my fathers Power Wagon has seen rain, snow, ice, sleet, and he swears by them as well the Terra Grapplers.

Us Florida boys need to pay attention to the small details like that. Ive had a lot of tires that were good on paper, horrible on the street. So far for cars Im sold forever on Continental DWS, and trucks will be Terra Grapplers. These are 2 tires that have yet to disappoint. Well kinda, the terra grapplers on paper are silent, they are not by any means.

toyo m/t's are a pretty tame mud terrain. very streetable and good in the rain/snow without being overly loud. i was disappointed in how the cooper s/t maxx handled in the rain. i would go with the toyo's.

I honestly can't even hear my Terra Grappler G2's at highway speeds.

Local owned shop. Porter field tire in Athens GA. I trust their guys and they are usually pretty competitive price wise.

i've been running m/t's exclusively on my last 4 trucks,in canadian west coast weather. ie: rain, and lots of it. my current tires for winter are nitto trail grapplers.never an issue with hydroplaning,as long as you drive with due care in inclement weather you'll not have a problem.ice and m/t's are a whole different ball game.

For what it's worth, NTB has the really good b2g2 deals going on almost all the time. Even with stuff that isn't normally part of the b2g2 (like larger truck tires), they'll work with you. With my 37's they gave me one free ($375 tire), so I got the 4 tires installed, road hazard warranty, 3 year alignment package for $1750 out the door.
