I grew up in the snow and my father always had a winch on his truck, used it here and there.

I've since moved to the warm and dry climate of northern California. I started wondering if I needed one.

So how many of you all have winches mounted on your trucks? and how/for what do you use it?

I have a 10000Lb Ramsey on my truck. Mine is on the deck behind the cab. I have Gin poles and I use my winch and poles a few times a month. Pull cars, trucks, lift things. I built the poles for skinning and gutting but they work for everything else.

that's my 'fear'. if I was still in the northeast, It'd be a no brainer for me but in dry northern cal, I don't want to drop $2000 or so and just use it as decoration. I'm probably going to hold off on a winch for now.
