So, I like my truck. I'm not sure I like it as much as the '08 F-350 I sold for it but it is definitely better looking.

I thought I'd put together a comprehensive list (as of today) of things that really **** me off about it and see if any of y'all have the same issues.

  1. The under cab Clunk when going over pot holes
  2. POS HVAC. Too hot on passenger side, too cold on driver. Air flow will NEVER stop coming out of the defroster vents
  3. The crappy 'Alpine' stereo that I paid extra for
  4. More recalls than all my previous vehicles combined
  5. Dopey looking 'key' that sticks out of the dash about a foot
  6. Paint that scratches if you look at it wrong
  7. Body panels that dent if you breathe on them wrong
  8. Interior plastic panels that scuff (forever) if you touch them wrong
  9. 30k miles and it is picking up more and more creeks and groans from poorly fitted components
  10. Lack of aftermarket support for the 6.4L

Ditto, careful though you might get branded as a whining tinfoil hat wearing know it all. There are a lot of brand loyal members on here.
As long as you put the RAM logo on it they swear by it, no matter how bad it is.

Funny part is they are so proud of the RAM logo and then they go to great lengths to remove (debadge) the logos from the truck???

Oh add to the list;
The dreaded leaking third brake light
Poorest customer support in the industry two years running.
But hey I get free coffee when I bring it in for the monthly recalls.

Gas or diesel?

That's somewhat of a long story. I special ordered the truck with a 5.4 gas and 6 speed manual with the intent of swapping in an old school stroked 460 big block...started having kids and well, you know.

So, yes, it was a gasser.

Okay, JW, the 6-4's were a PILE. I feel sorry for any person that ended up with one. A stroked 460 would've been beast.

Is this a ***** and complain log on the 6.4? Every vehicle has problems. If you don't like your truck trade it and start over. Yeah you may lose money but the stress of owning something you don't like or trust isn't worth it. I love my 6.4. I've owned Chevy, gmc, ford, and ram. They all have problems at some point and I've been fortunate that ram has given me the least problems of them all. Maybe you should try a Honda Ridgeline? Heard they're very dependable.

Yup that's exactly what it is...if you don't like it you're free not to read it. :flipthebird:

Dip stick is always popped out of the tube. I could have sworn there was a clip on the tube when I got the truck, but it's not there anymore.

Well, the only thing on your list that I have a "problem" with is #1 and to me it really doesn't bother me. I try to avoid pot holes or going over speed bumps fast because that is when I hear the clunk. Not good for the truck in general to drive over these items fast anyways.

The Alpine system in my Laramie is great. I'm not a huge music fanatic so a $3000 aftermarket system has no value to me. IMO, it works great for me and my needs.

Take your truck in for hvac warranty work. Mines fine.

I have the push to start button on my personal 2500 MC so no dopey looking key. My 1500 has that key but I drive a free truck for work so I don't care

Recalls happen to many vehicles. What were all your past vehicles?

Paint and body panels. I have GCM color so the chips do show a little easier but that is to be expected on darker color vehicles. Yours in black. IMO, they should not have used a light grey primer to paint a dark color vehicle.

Interior panels on mine are g2g. Trim your finger nails or just be careful of your watch on the door panel. What are you possibly doing to always scratch your panels? Hockey game in the cab?

Are you sure your creeks and groans are not attributed to your level kit, maybe rougher ride due to larger tires? Mines quiet as can be. Actually much quieter than my wife's '12 Explorer.

I don't need aftermarket parts for my 6.4. Plenty good stock. You said in another post you ordered a 5.4 which I assumed you meant 5.7 but your avatar info sates a 6.4. What is it? You should have gone 5.7 in the 2500 if you want aftermarket goodies. It is still a very new engine.

These new 6.4s and the Rams are not perfect and do have problems but no more or less than the other makes. Mine's a 2015 with 11k miles. It may Delores other issues but until I'm a happy Ram owner.

He was talking about his 08 F350 that came with a 5.4L back then.

I'm with Skrap on this one. I luv mine.

Clunks in a 7100 lb truck with aired up tires seem kinda par for the course, but I don't have any out of the ordinary. So for me the issue is Ram's dumb idea to require such high running tire pressures.
My AC works well.
Luv my Apline.
Recalls are common across the board.
Key is a bit big, but perfectly usable & like most Dodge keys these days.
My paint is less prone to scratches than my Titan was.
All sheet metal for vehicles these days is junk. But I will give you this one because my gas cap has created a small ding from falling off the hook.
I haven't had any interior plastics issues to speak of.
7500K mies and seems solid, minimal creaks & squeaks so far.
Not ready for any aftermarket stuff until warranty is up.

Just my thoughts.

Won't beat a dead horse, so will leave out the all truck have their problems line. Having said that, two things that annoy the **** out of me is my audio/head unit and the rear end clunk when you accelerate after you slow down. I don't have the alpine but have the 8.4A, it won't recognize my Bluetooth phone randomly. all software updated too. The rear end clunk doesn't sound threatening, it's just there. Had the same type of thing with my Pontiac G8 GT when you slow down then roll on throttle.

I'm not bothered by the other problems the OP stated. I've accepted all vehicles now are made to save manufacturing $$ and weight. things will scratch, peel, ding, etc. I think its the modern day version of the personality or character that the old 60's vehicles had only back then it was mechanical downfalls.

So for those that have trouble with comprehension and can't help but imagine things lets be clear, my original post began 'So, I like my truck. I'm not sure I like it as much as the '08 F-350 I sold for it but it is definitely better looking. '

I made no direct comparison to GMC or Chevy or Ford or what have you. I did say I'm not sure that I like it as much as my F-350 but that's my opinion so :flipthebird:.

Now for specifics, I have taken the truck in to have the HVAC looked at by 3 different dealers...I mean, duh is that really your advices for a year old $50k truck? You wanna know what the quality Mopar tech told me? 'We compared it to the other Rams on the lot and they're all the same. Must be a design flaw so there's nothing we can do'. So you know what? I literally have to dress differently to drive my truck when anyone else is with me. Why you may ask? Well so I don't freeze my ass off while they have 'normal' heat on the passenger side. I live in MN, it's f'king cold 9 months of the year here!

Oh and for the smart guy who wanted to know the cars I've had so he could check my recalls...have fun.

Snake, My worst one is the F***ing paint! I have no idea what is wrong with it, but it's horrible. I have scratches and chips right though the clear coat to bare metal. One of which is in the crevasse under the taillight behind the bumper? Took it back to the dealer and they acted like it was my fault for driving the truck. They could cover ONE / SINGULAR chip! It wasn't worth my time to drop the truck off. It went in to the body shop at 1,200 miles to have some repaired. Then it got detailed, so I can deal with it. My truck gets babied and doesn't even get driven every day. 7,500 miles a year about.

The stupid tire pressure is annoying. I've leveled and swapped my shocks so it rides much better than it did from the factory, but if you could put 60 PSI in the rear instead of 80, it would probably ride much better. I've got them at 72 PSI I think enough so the light stays out. No clue what genius came up with 60 / 80 PSI tire thresholds on a 2500 but they didn't do me any favors.

Alpine system I completely agree with. It should sound so much clearer for the price tag. I will swap out the front speakers, like I read about on here.

I love the truck, but the paint is horrid, and tire sensors are really annoying. I don't mind it riding a little stiffer, but damn. 80 PSI is re-donkulous! I'm not driving a dually!

JeepN77, there is a fix for the TPMS pressures, I was the guy that found it posted on the Cumminsforum and it's a sticky in the Heavy Duty section. I'm not sure if it works on '15 and up but it worked on my '14. The other issue is finding a dealer that will do the work as it seems like many just flat out refuse.

As for paint, check out the door detent mechanism sometime. It's the lever arm that rolls on a tiny wheel in the door jamb. You will notice that all your paint has fallen off where the arm contacts the wheel. My body guy says that the paint just won't adhere at all and it just flakes off.

As for the Alpine, be careful. I installed the Mopar Kicker upgrade speakers in the dash, front doors and rear doors and while they are a tremendous improvement the Alpine's output is equalized from the HU to be very bright, and I mean VERY bright! I have the treble turned all the way down (-9) and the bass up to +7 and it is mostly passable depending on the source. If any song I listen to is heavy on the high end there is nothing I can do since I have no adjustment left. I have literally gotten a headache listening to certain songs.

I have mine leveled as well with RCX shocks in the front. I do like the way it rides. It's very confident and MUCH smoother than my F-350 was. The coil springs in the rear really make a big difference.

Thanks, I called Ram and the dealership yesterday and they won't do it. I will live with them. I think I run mine at 58 / 72. Not expecting much out of the stock tires anyways.

I will check the roller. Never even looked at it. I know that my truck doesn't have boards and one of my back door sills is scratched up from someone not knowing how to enter a truck. I don't have boards or steps as of now. I want power boards but they are a little pricey, next on the list I think! I'm looking at the clear 3MM protectant for that. I Have a heat gun so I can try to do it right.

I would like to upgrade to nicer ALPINES! Does that make sense? I have never had a problem with aftermarket ALPINE anything. I usually go all ALPINE and never had a problem. I'm going to wait and see what people end up doing in theirs first. It's not really very high on the list. Just needs to be addressed at sometime.

Thank you.

Rear end on the MY14 1500 2wd started getting clanky and loose at around 29k. To be fair it was a dedicated hauler so, whatever. 2k into the new MY16 3500 4x4 hasn't produced any gripes other than it coming to the dealer with a less-than-thorough PDI. As has been stated big trucks clank no matter the flavor. Just glad to know this here thread allows us to be objective about our purchases and experiences. Oh yeah, not wild about the inability to relocate the back up camera.

"Oh, sweet debt. Thy name is Truck."
