How do you know when MDS is active? Is there a light or symbol in the EVIC? Any tell tell signs.

How do you turn off MDS?

An eco light comes on the dash and a Loud "bwaaaa" lawnmower sound comes from underhood. Tow haul mode or hit down once on the electric shifter cuts it off.

There may be a difference between the 5.7 and 6.4 operation. On my 6.4 the ECO light definitely corresponds with MDS operation.

The light on mine and my 2014 5.7 both coincide with MDS turning on and off, you can feel it a little when you go from 4 to 8 starting up a hill.

That may be true but from a theory of operation standpoint, MDS and ECO mode light not one in the same.

Been discussed heavily before and ECO just means you are driving "economically". In a nutshell, ECO is not dependent on MDS but MDS operation is dependent on being in ECO mode before it engages.

Funny though that when the ECO light comes on (assuming you have that feature active), and if you are looking at your fuel consumption gauge, it seems to always come on when you are in a certain liters per 100 km range, and of course when the light comes on you can hear a different engine tone/sound i.e. the "drone".

Now if you manually place the transmission in 6th, the ECO light will never come on, however if you watch the fuel consumption gauge, you will still see the same fuel mileage range as when the ECO light was on & the transmission was shifting into OD, but you do not hear the same engine tone/sound i.e. the "drone"......and of course the shifting clunk tends to goes away.

Just my observations based on my driving habits.

So does the 6.4L turn into a 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder when the MDS is active?

4...but I really think unless you are doing straight long haul highway runs with no loads, you will not see any fuel savings and your truck will run better if it does not activated.

Good sales pitch....is real life, it is a fail.

I assume you know this already, but your truck does not have that feature seeing as you have the 5.7.
Just noticed your details.

So not sure why you are inquiring other than curiosity.

Just turned mine off. About 609 miles until oil change and have to reset back to stock. Gonna test it with mds off for awhile and see if I like it or notice a difference in mpg. Tired of feeling like its bogging the motor down. It can be turned off with Diablo tuner.

They are dependent on one another. When I drive with gear 6 selected on the shifter, the eco light never comes on even when coasting. Normal drive mode the light comes on when it goes into 4 cylinders. I can tell it happens at the same time as I have dual Flowmaster 40 series on and it sounds like a jake brake when it goes into 4 cylinders and it happens at the same time as the light comes on. The light goes off when it kicks back into 8 cylinders as I can tell from the exhaust note.
