Roger that.

I'm trying to drive a local Mega Cab (3.73s unfortunately) w/ the 6.4 vs the Cummins (obviously 3.42) over the weekend. I know the MC will be slow(er) w/o the 4.10s but it's what's available.

If I pull the trigger, I'm going to have to order the truck.

You also have the problem that it is the '16 to '17 changeover period - inventory may be low.

check
dave smith or Dennis Dillion - both in Idaho- They will pick u up from the air port and each have a surplus of trucks - Their prices can not be beat. I have a 14mega with 373"s- The 373"s are ok- I will upgrade to 456"s eventually as i feel it will help the truck utilize the mds more and shouldn't really hurt the mileage in town. I live in the mountains so I am always climbing a hill- If I lived in a flat state or at sea lvl then the 373"s would be adequate. Just food for thought-

Good point. The 1500 is still working fine - I'm ok waiting for 2017 or even later.

I had hoped the hd major update in 2018 would counter the new Ford super duty (they are nice, have great tech, but no reclining rear seat and cost much more money) but as discussed in the other thread that major update is looking like 2019.

And if we're in 2019, level 3 or 4 autonomous features are supposed to show up in MY2021 (for cars anyway)...

My thought is that with major updates - you get a lot of recalls. I prefer buying something that has been out for awhile and the kinks have been worked out.

That was my thinking in buying the 2014 1500 - it was a year after the new model (2013) but I still had to deal w/ 3 recalls during the first year of ownership.

On the performance topic:

I've read that the 6.4 Hemi is *de-rated* for Mega Cab applications. Is this still true in MY2016 & MY2017?

At least for 2016, yes. For 2017, I would imagine the same.

Reading more into this, it seems like it's truly a rating-driven thing and the engine actual output is unchanged.

- Applies to 3500 only (GVW > 10,000 lbs)
- Has to do with maximum allowable sound pressure level in the cabin (EPA restriction on class 3 trucks)
- Actual engine output is unchanged

I don't care much about this but can anyone verify that the engine output between crew cab and mega cab is the same?

Everything I've read is parallels your statement. It's in the rating due to the RPM they use to rate, not the actual output
