I scanned the thread and did not notice if anyone mentioned this or not but if the 5ver weighs in at say 10k and the cgvwr is 17k you still have to take in consideration the weight of the truck. Is that correct? I am hoping to purchase a new ram this summer and paid close attention to all the ratings. My tractor is probably between 10 to 12,000 plus the trailer is around 5 to six plus the truck will put me just over the limit of the 6.4 2500

Yes for the total combined weight you include the trucks weight any anything in it. Always plan for the worse if you say 5-6 on the trailer call it 6 and 10-12 on the tractor call it 12 and give yourself 10-20% extra because others will ride with you, you may be carrying tools supplys all that adds up your going to want to beable to tow 18+ so you need to look at a 3500 cummins to pull a 12k tractor on a 6k trailer.

ive never really paid attention to the numbers before, I am just now realizing how much over the factory ratings ive been running. Here in southwest LA it is pancake flat with the exception of a few interstate overpasses so I have never really had any issues. Stopping on the other hand, although not a serious problem, was never anything I was happy with. I will definitely weigh all my options. Thanks for the input.
