Every year I buy 4 tons of wood pellets for heating purposes.Tomorrow headed out to pickup 4 tons with my 20ft.PJ trailer(14,000 lbs 2 axles).I believe the trailer weighs around 3,300lbs.Round trip should be about 60 miles so it should be a good test to see how the 6.4 pulls.:happy107:

I'll give you a preview.

1st gear- "wow this is great. Shes grunting some but getting it done"

2nd gear "what Happend"
3rd "that's better"
4th "cruising"
5th "nope"

Mine does good with 10000-11000 down here on relatively hilly/flat land but i wouldn't want to tow in the mountains a whole lot. Let us know what you think.

It should pull in 5th. My TH is 11-12k depending and the 6.4 would hold 5th on level ground.

It will be a good test. I don't think you'll be disappointed, but that 1-2 shift is big.

I have a 16ft 14k trailer (2,600lbs. I believe) and I put 8400 pounds worth of batteries on it...drove it maybe 50 miles or so home and had zero issues. I put it in tow/haul mode and it rarely had to drop a gear, just cruised at around 65mph (2-2.1k rpm) and maybe hit it down a mph or two on the CC when going up small hills to keep it from dropping a gear. Rev up to 4k in the first 2 gears and you'll accelerate fine. The truck controls that weight really easily too. I'd have no fear towing 14-15k with this truck. 11k was a breeze.

Sounds about right.......and in line with my experience towing with it.

Good luck, stay safe.

It went very well. The 6.4 handled the weight like a champ.Granted around here not many mountains or huge hills, mostly slight inclines.:favorites13:

Awesome! Glad to hear. These trucks these days sure make towing less of an issue.

Being somewhat of a old fart I look back at the pickup trucks from the 60,s 70,s & 80,s and still get amazed how far pickup trucks have come.:happy107:
