I have had 4 f250 4x4 and a few chevy 2500 4x4 and even a couple older dodges that had leaf springs and compared to the new style of the coil springs in the rear these trucks ride worse unloaded than any 3/4 and 1 ton I have ever drove. Loaded they do great but I just don't see why they went with the coil springs in the rear that's what they were doing in the 50s-70's the leaf spring in my opinion was a far better design and lot less parts to go bad compared to the coil spring set up I have now.

Could you adjust your air pressure in the rear tires to help.

I may try and lower to 55psi when unloaded, thanks. Even with that being said they still ride so much rougher than any 3/4 or 1 ton I have driven.

I'd bet the older ones didn't have the payload capacity and/or the springs were worn out. Plus tire pressure and new tires.

as already mentioned, drop the air pressure all around. I actually took my truck to the shop and had them reprogram the threshold where the low tire pressure light comes on. I run 40 psi in the rear and 60 in the front.

also, as already mentioned, I can almost certainly tell you that none of your previous 3/4 ton trucks had a GVWR of 10,000 like these do...

the benefits of the 4 link coil spring is a smoother and more progressive ride. The 4 link also all but eliminates any axle wrap that the leaf springs allow. Doing this eliminates wheel hop as well as added stress to the drive shaft's U joints. I can feel a huge difference in how the power is planted to the ground when going from my 2500 to my fathers 3500 dually... The leaf springs have to twist and sort of pre load before the wheels really begin to move.

the coil sprung rear end is the sole reason why i went with a 2500 vs a 3500. I'd like the extra pay load but i spend more time empty than i do loaded...

I think eventually even the 3500 and dually will end up with could... I think the 2500 is the test mule. It is rough, not going to say rougher than previous. It rides pretty nice when it's loaded...

When I did my level kit I swapped out the stock shocks for Bilsteins all the way around. The ride quality is night and day better!!! If you don't mind dropping a little $$$ you could try that. And if $$$ isn't an issue contact Don Thuren Suspension and try changing to a progressive rate coil.

FWIW, my perception is that my former '99 F-250 4x4 Powerstroke rode noticeably harsher than my '15 2500 4x4 (both SC LB). I like the coils. Now if I could only figure out some way to lower the truck. Ever tried to stack small squares five high on a bed that starts 41" off the ground? Sheesh!

2011 and up F250 have very soft springs for an HD. Long and only 2 leaves. I'm sure you've seen most of them bulldogging around town if they have any weight in the bed or have been leveled.

Drop the air pressure in your tires. Mine were luke 87psi all 4 corners when I bought it. 65-45 now.

The current F250's have 3, 4, or 5 leafs depending on the package. The standard "dealer lot special" F250 usually have only 3 leafs, but you can order the $160 camper package to get the additional springs. Sort of like how most Ram dealerships only have 3.73 rear ends with the 6.4L and 4.10's are very rare.

thanks for the info i just dropped my air pressure to 50 in the rear and 60 in the front. they were all close to 75. I tried calling the dealers and they said they could not lower the tire pressure more than 3 psi either direction, they said goverment wont let them. looks like i will have to live with the light on.

3 posts, and 2 are ******** about a Ram... on a Ram forum.

I guess my first question would be, how did the truck ride when you took a test drive before you bought it? You did take a test drive first right? Did the ride change between your test drive and signing the papers?

My second question would be, why is a Ford man buying (and ******** about) a Ram? If the Ford is so great, why not get another?

My third question would be, what is the point of your post? Personally my experience is that the coils provide a WAY better ride, loaded or unloaded than any other leaf suspension truck I have ever ridden in. That is one of the reasons I bought a Ram.

I smell troll turds...

Spoon059- Just let me say I have had more 3/4 and 1 tons trucks in my life than probably any one on this site. So for me personally and everyone that has rode in my new truck will say without a doubt it rides worse than any previous trucks UNLOADED. Also I am not a ford, dodge, gm man I am whatever truck is the best for me at the time of purchase. Dodge had more positives than any others in my opinion but I was only saying the the rear coils unloaded have a lot more improving in my opinion- they will beat you to death on the highway.

Almost as if something funky is going on with your truck? I have not drove a bunch of 3/4-1 ton trucks (probably 8-10) but I feel like the 2500 rides VERY well. I drove a few 1/2 tons when I was test driving & I thought there was very little difference between the two.
It stinks that some of these stealerships will not adjust the computer to allow for lower tire pressure. I am hoping mine will do my truck when it gets here.

I test drove a 2500 Cummins and the ride did seem a tad harsh, but they had the rear tires at 80psi. I ordered one with the rear air suspension which I hear gives a really nice ride.

the rear air suspension is def. the way to go on these trucks in my opinion. Looks like for me personally I will just have a set of softer springs made for the rear and put air bags so when I am pulling I can just air up. Don't mean to start a war or bash the new rams as I love everthing else on it. I just wanted to state my opinion that to me all the rear suspension on the new coil spring set up is very rough unloaded compared to my other dodge fords and gms in the last 5 or 6 years I have owned.

I would give it some time if yours is still new and maybe they will settle down some.

Search on here someone has had the dealer readjust the air pressure monitoring.

I have owned and driven numerous 250/2500 and 350/3500 trucks over the years and I would have to say that the current coil spring suspension does ride smoother than any 250/2500 or 350/3500 truck I have ever drove or rode in. At my old company position we used to get new trucks every two years before trading them down to the field service foreman's, and my company tried them all so I have driven all the current models besides the new GM HD's. Although I am a man and can deal with such things at the price of more capability and less sag. Ain't nothing like hooking up a 14k 5th wheel trailer and still being level with a 2500 truck.
