Going to test drive a 2500 soon and was wondering if this option gives that much of a smoother on road ride? Tried to search but am getting overwhelmed with other off road things. thsnks

IMO the Offroad Package does help make the truck ride better. I saw it as for $495 bucks or whatever it is, its worth it for the extra goodies.

If the coils are the same as a regular truck, then the Bilstiens will not do too much to smoothen out the ride. They may make the ride a little more stable
and are able to handle longer periods of off road driving without shock fade than the regular shocks, but I doubt they would make it feel that much softer or smoother without a coil replacement.

Here is a good overview of off road shocks: Shock Absorbers: Tech Overview of Off Road Shocks

Looking at this article: 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 Off-Road Package

Looks like the big difference in the suspension is just the shocks. It doesn't mention the springs. If the package is only $495, then it should be worth it to get the tow hooks, transfer case skid, and most important, limited slip rear.

If you're looking for smoother ride, it'd look for some used power wagon shocks / springs. Most lifts that give you better articulation and smoother ride also give you softer spring rates which decrease payload. It's a trade off.

Tow hooks, transfer case skid plates, fender flares, and an LSD rear end came with my Laramie trim. The only thing that the off road package has that mine does not is the hill decent control and Bilstein shocks.

Yeah, I've used the hill decent control twice on my wife's jeep and that is just to see if it works...
