As soon as I start my truck the oil temp shows 122 degrees, is this normal?

I don't know if it's normal or not, mine always reads well above outside temp on cold start, I'll have to check what it actually says on my next cold start. I just kinda past it off as maybe that was the bottom end of operating range for that sensor.

Depends on how long its been since you had it running and the ambient temp. That temp is normal for most engines if it has been within 4 hours of starting your truck and it is 90°F plus degrees out. It is not normal if the truck has been sitting all night.

What he said- Unless the aimbent temperature there is over 120* and depending on where you are it could very well be lol

from a cold start, it probably is normal. I've heard of several different combinations of years, trim level, and engines reporting the 122°F on a cold start up.

That's normal that's a less than sign in front of the 122. If you watch as it warms up you'll see the symbol disappear and than it will start to rise.

As others said, temp readout starts at 122. Anything less is <122 and that's it.

I guess the oil temp sensor on the Cummins is different. At start up from sitting for 8 hours outside, the oil temp will read pretty close to the ambient temp even if it 40°F outside. Same for my old F150 and most of my previous vehicles with an oil temp. But at least there is an actual oil temp there instead of just some dumby gauge.

Thanks for that. I’ve got a 2018, 6.7, it reads 104 cold and it isn’t addressed anywhere in the manual. I’ve been waiting till it hits 105 to drive figuring that was the minimum.
