My wife was driving our 2016 6.4 2500 4x4 yesterday and the check engine light came on and the manual shift display popped up showing the truck was in 1st with 4th being the highest gear selected however the truck would not shift out of 1st. She did fill up prior to this happening so I guess bad fuel could make the transmission go into a limp mode? Truck has 17000 miles and not a lick of trouble until yesterday. Anybody else have this issue?

Well if it has the 3:73 rear end, at least she was still able to go 100 MpH in first!
Seriously, though, sounds like a hiccup to me, did it correct after shut off and restart, is it still in 1st? I doubt very seriously it is a transmission issue per se, as these seem to have a pretty robust unit in them. I'll be following to see what the recommendations are..

It actually did this to me about six months ago and cleared right up. This time it would straighten up and was towed to the dealer. Hopefully we will know something soon.

my truck did just about the same thing, but went from 6th to 4th gear and would not shift up or down last week. had truck towed to dealer and they put in a whole new valve body with solenoids and wire harness. They had it in stock and truck was ready to go in less than 24hrs. Runs good now.

That happened to a friend of mine's 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins. Apparently this must be a fairly common issue.

My 2016 2500 6.7 had the same transmission issue- reversing into my drive way then put it into drive to straighten up and the check engine popped up and when shifted into drive it went into limp mode (the D on the shifting screen had a 1 and a 4). Truck only had 20,000 miles and it was the " SHIFT SOLENOID " that went bad. Just got the truck back today from the shop its shifting a slight bit smoother but i didn't notice an issue before it went bad.

P/S- I'm the second owner and not sure if the original owner just beat it up and traded it in.
