I just got another recall notice That makes 7 in less than 2 years? This one seems reminiscent of problems that have plagued Ram trucks for years. Apparently the steering track bar brackets were welded on by Moe Howard and the welds can crack and fail and separate from the frame rail. This will cause diminished steering response and could cause a crash without warning.

FCA intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). However a permanent remedy for this condition is under development. Freaking really???

So lets see now we have Larry Fine engineering a temporary fix, which will be accomplished at my local dealer by either Curly or Shemp Howard!

I think most of this would have gone unnoticed in the past. Now that NHTSB has stepped in and started fining the companies big time, they are recalling everything to keep big brother off their ass! That being said, the ******** need a recall for TPMS and give us a ligh load limit back!

My 2014 Ram has already had 3 non-engine recalls and has been to the dealership for two different issues. My tuned 2011 F150 EB that I constantly (and easily) pulled 10k with, never had one recall or trip to the dealer. Just sayin'.

Love the truck, hate the build quality..........not enough to get rid of it though. The "other guys" aren't doing much better and frankly, Don't offer what Ram does.

EDIT: both of my previous HD's ('08 & '10) were built much better than my current 1500.

The build quality on my '13 1500 was top notch. Very polished, not even a panel out of alignment. No squeaks, rattles, or anything. The build quality on my '14 2500 is leaving me underwhelmed. Still top rate truck, but it seems like a lot less care went into it. Everything rattles and squeaks, my rambox lids aren't in alignment, certain electrical gremlins are just dying to get out (I can see it in the behaviour of the cluster- bouncing tach and speedo needles) flickering dome lights, binding climate system housing... really not all that pleased, but still better than the plastic Ford I had.

I'm pretty impressed with mine. Other than buckboard rattles when driving on rough roads its quiet as a mouse. Fit/finish is outstanding. I do have one electrical issue with a bad ground on my 4-pin connector (7-pin is fine), but that is pretty minor.

^Agreed. .....

Overall my truck has been impressive with regard to build quality and driveability. Coming from a GM (and a Ford prior to that) this truck drives like a dream.

Not bashing my previous trucks, but since I made the switch to Ram, I've been VERY pleased.

I've got 2 recalls so far; R36 & R46. R46 is the recall that bothers me the most but I would guess that only a small percentage of trucks in the recall actually have a problem with the welds. My biggest annoyance on the truck is the tailgate end cap, bed rails and the thin bed material. I've already broke the outside ends of the tailgate cap sliding material in and out of the truck. The plastic is too damn soft and flexes way too much and just some cheap plastic pins are holding it on. Putting firewood or heavy tools in the back, the wheel wells dent so damn easily. Its a heavy duty truck for made to haul loads in and out of the bed for goodness sakes. Would think they'd strengthen materials in this area. And I dislike how it holds water on top of the tailgate cap after a rain or snow, you got to let the tailgate down to get the water off and you're jumping out of the way so you don't get wet. Other than that, this truck feels solid on the road, interior is the nicest out there, and I look forward to driving my truck everyday! :waytogo: :favorites13:

You should have had more than 2.

10 Quad Cab side curtain airbag Reprogram (vin specific) http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/201...recalled-for-side-curtain-airbag-problem.html

While some of the above may be not be applicable to your truck and may technically be classified as a campaign, The FCA documentation still calls them a recall. "Potato" / "Pototo" however you say these are problems that need to be fixed. Items 2, 4, 6, 7, 9 & 10 are safety related and as you said R46 scares me too, and I don't want it rewelded by some ******* at the dealership.

The above list of recall/campaigns is by no means everything nor are they numbered in the order in which they were published.

Oh and I agree about the tailgate holding water got soaked a few times!

Never did 'officially' get the recall on the TPMS or RFH but I did have problems right off the bat with them and ended up getting new sensors and the RF Hub replaced within 3 weeks of owning the truck in June 2014 so perhaps RAM's system of VIN #'s with parts being replaced is more efficient than what I think.... :Big Laugh:

With regards to the R46 recall, as many trucks that will possibly need the fix, I've been reading that it may be highly unlikely that the brackets will be rewelded and that a 'bolt-on support bracket' may be how it is addressed. It'd be much easier for RAM service centers to line up a support bracket, drill a hole(s) and put in a grade 8 bolt or two than to get certified welders coordinated around the whole country to grind off the existing welds and reweld. It will be interesting to see what RAM comes up with. My recall says to expect something in the next 30 days which I received the middle of this week. However, I see most have already been waiting nearly that long for a solution.

On #2.. could be interesting for us with upgraded from plain Jane to premium gauges. Mine is behaving great but just a thought.

I have thought about that myself, I had the recall done prior to the swap and so far no issues.

I was also concerned that when I brought it in for R36, after waiting to weeks for parts (guess there was a nationwide zip tie shortage) that they would give me **** about replacing my steering wheel prior, but they were not smart enough to even notice. (sometimes their incompetence works in our favor I guess)

I am sure I don't want them having the local Ram-moron Techs drilling holes through my frame either!

Anyone been to the dealer for this recall (R46) yet?

No yet for me. The local Ram dealers are so backed up with recalls that the soonest one could get me in was the 10th of November when a called to schedule an appointment almost two weeks ago. Ram did send me a USB to fix the hacking recall and that is the only one I have done so far.

I can understand a manufactures need to recall, but 3 in less than one year of owning a new truck is a bit excessive especially when it is a quality issue like the weld. Then there are the other two issues that I have had with this btruck like the steering wheel buttons not responding and the leaking transmission. The spare tire metal shield was missing a few nuts so I had to finish up a job that the assembly line should have done. I have a few good friends that are having the same issue with their new trucks, and they say the same thing I do. If it wasn't for the Cummins engine, I wouldn't even be a Ram customer.
