That might be what he is saying. But that is definitely NOT the case in the eyes of DOT, state patrol, insurance companies, and ambulance chasing lawyers. Especially if you were ever in an accident (at fault or not). Just because you put air bags on your truck doesn't make it legal to haul more than what it was rated for by the factory.

We see/hear/read of people claiming this all the time, but nobody has ever been able to produce a single shred of evidence of it ever happening. As I stated earlier, the 5.7 2500 has 1000lb less GVWR than the other motor combos. I don't know why, but it's worth finding out before trying to beef it up.

then there's THAT! I was actually thinking more about the hauling I do around my property and pasture more than on the highway. I don't mess with on road hauling, the commercial CHPs are kind of aggressive in my parts.

BTW: sorry OP for the semi- thread jack.

Just got new 6pk leaves for Gladys and the lot at the spring shop had no less than 3 2500's there for suspension upgrades. I'm casting no vote here (sorry Vulcan) but will openly testify that real world 5.7/6.4 difference is greater than that shown on any printout. Happy number crunchin', bud.

I had a 2500 with the 5.7 pulling an 8500 pound tag camper. Never had an issue with it in terms of power or performance. It struggled a tad on big hills, but so does my current 6.4.

Actually, I only bought a 6.4 because it was all the dealer had....if there was a 5.7 on the lot I would have bought it.:roflsquared:

I did 2500 for the ride because I knew that the 2500's were the exact same things as the 3500's besides the rear suspension(which a set of Timbrens will fix) and were only payload limited by the manufactures sticker due to DOT and EPA truck classifications. I also know that the law doesn't enforce the the sticker on the door, they enforce the weight the truck is registered for.

Or get a 3500 and THEN put Timbrens on it...... :naughty:

Ah, hell. Just get the 3500. Install an add-a-leaf and timbrens. That should be the best all around. It'll ride like a dream. A Ram 4500 dream.

I'd pass on both trucks. Wait for a 2500 with lower miles with the 6.4. Make sure it has the 4.10 rear end. Don't settle. Make sure it also has the trim level you want.
Never buy a rental truck. That's just asking for trouble.

I would wait and find a truck more to you liking. I would also want a ,6.4 engine.
