ok, folks.... help me decide. i think i want to trade my ram in for a new one. here is what i have. 2014 1500 quad cab 4x4. has the 5.7 hemi. i installed the remote start, step bars, bed liner, tinted windows, and navigation with a new head unit. only has 12200 miles.

what i want to trade for...2016 3500, has all the options my old ram had except for the step rails and the bedliner. the new one has the 6.4 hemi also. i have got the 2016 down to 46500 out the door, down from the 52080 on the window sticker.

what are the thoughts on the price? can i get lower? i wont do it unless i get the bedliner and the rails, that is for sure.

let me know what you guys think, financing is already in line, i just have to make the decision. off to do some more reading, i have pretty much till tomorrow to decide, lucky for me it is the end of the month, which may work in my favor!

I just did basically the same deal, except traded a 2013 1500 for a new 2015 3500 Big Horn Blacktop Edition. I ended up paying $44,400 and got the Mopar steps thrown in. Sticker on mine was $52k as well. May get them down a little bit still yet but maybe not much more. I would aim for that price but add ons, steps/bed lineman other upgrades you want.

Hold out for the price you want. You should be able to get about 15% off MSRP, of course add in those add ons you are asking for at half MSRP. If they don't get there this month I bet they do next month, vehicle sales are always low in December.

Those "as low as" prices are assuming you qualify for every rebates offered... Military, college student, etc.

Ya but the price above that is only 3k higher and everybody qualifies for those. Bottom line 3/4-1 tons can be had for 10k back of msrp all day long.

$10K under sticker should be pretty easy. Also, your trade in is a big part of the deal. I always negotiate the purchase price without trade-in. If the dealer will give me a fair price for a trade-in, they can have it. Otherwise, I sell it to a private buyer.

I would also consider what my towing/hauling requirements are before going the 3500/6.4 route.

i have no towing/hauling requirements, other then my camper.. it is all about "want" at this point. i am not saying i will never get a bigger camper, but right now the 1500 will pull it just fine. i like the bigger truck, i like the bigger motor, and i like all the features the new truck has. i just dont have a real reason to justify it other then want at this point.

10k below msrp, well i am pretty close with the bedliner and step rails installed.i still feel i can get a little more there. we will see

What about a 2500? I would think that would be even less expensive. And since your 1500 currently has enough power and payload for your trailer then the extra 1500lbs of payload and extra 6.4 hp/torque of the 2500 would be overkill plus some cash in your pocket.

I found when I was buying mine that there wasn't a huge $$$ difference in the 2500 to 3500. But I was shopping leftover 2015s so maybe that's why. My biggest issue with the 3500 is how rough it rides, especially coming from a 1500.
But the extra payload is a good thing, weight adds up quick.

I bought a 2015 Bighorn 3500 Mega w/ 6.4 last spring for 44K; I had to order since I wanted the 4:10 gears.

I need the payload capacity of the 3500 but If you don't need the extra payload I'd recommend you get a 2500. The ride in the 3500 isn't horrible but the 2500 is noticeably softer.

I agree with that statement... with out a true need for the extra capacity the ride quality is noticeably different between the 2500 and 3500. The 2500 has a 4 link coil spring rear end which will make for a smoother ride as well as it eliminates wheel hop...

There arent any limitations... its just a 9k dollar option to whichever model you want.

FWIW, in my opinion, the crew cab 4wd tradesman models are kind of a rip off (at least with most of the available options). You can get a big horn for a few more bucks that has significantly more options (standard) and holds much better value.

I guess what Im saying is a loaded tradesman is a bad deal IMO.
