My wife hates the ride of my 2016 Ram 2500....it is a tad rough. I did drop the air pressure to 46 pounds and that did help.

I have been reviewing shock absorber info and I see that both Bilstein and Sykjacker M95 seem to be the most popular.

One guy said he put the skyjackers on his f250 and it rides like his wife's tahoe....I think I would like to call B S on that one. However, I might be wrong.
Anyone able to verify that??

With the bilsteins, I confused....there is the 4600 and the 5100. Some places say they are the same except the 5100 is for lifted truck. Others say the 4600 rides more firm....don't need that.

I am thoroughly confused....any advice would definitely be appreciated....

I believe that the 4600 are more of a factory replacement shock and I can tell you that the 5100's won't help. As far as the others I don't know. No matter what you do the ride won't get much better. It's a solid front axle truck and they will always be a firm ride.

All that payload comes at a price..... an unhappy wife :)

I've been down this exact road before. The easiest solution is to drive another vehicle when the two of you go out, if possible. My wife and I still laugh about the time she was about 8 months pregnant and just let me have it one day telling me my driving had "gone to hell". Too many bumps in the road apparently.

Realistically, there is no shock that is going to drastically change anything. This is just life with an HD truck. The only true solution is a full air suspension that you can inflate/deflate to fit what you are doing. That is big $$ though. As in thousands not hundreds.

I can get a set of bilstiens for $329 shipped from jet.com. I might go ahead as they as good for stability off road and towing ....worth it for that?

If it were me, I would consider other shocks than the two you mentioned.

I put 5100's on mine. Ride is better than the stock shocks. Yes it is a Heavy Duty truck. You can also reduce the tire pressures front and rear which will make it a softer ride. Your price sounds good if that's for the 5100's.

Fox, King, Icon?

We've got some custom valved Fox's on our shop truck and it rides great. A bit on the firm side, but the rear suspension doesn't move much when it's empty.

I'm curious on how the Bilstein 4600's ride vs. the OEM stock shocks?

I believe the 4600s are OEM fitted on the new Offroad Package and on high trim level Rams.

I had my stock rear driver shock replaced under warranty due to all the fluid leaking out. I noticed no difference in ride quality with the leaker vs. new replacement... That tells me how crappy they are.

I've run Bilsteins on past vehicles and they tended to be a firmer ride, but the trade was much better handling. They also handled bumps better than stock.

As stiff as our suspensions are, I wonder if the Bilsteins would actually improve the ride?

17" wheels and larger tires. Short of changing your springs and getting custom valved shocks you are at the mercy of your 20" wheels and HD suspension.

the 5100's made a noticeable improvement in ride quality on my truck. big bumps are still going to be harsh, no getting around that. but the smaller bumps and rough pavement are much smoother with the 5100's then factory, i swapped mine at 5000miles so the factory shocks were still fairly new.

I have lowered the tire pressure to 45 pounds all around, and it rides better....
I been doing a lot of research and it seems that either Bilstein 5100 or Ransho 9000xl are the way to go.....just can't decide.

Overall cost on either set is around $400...sure don't want to buy the wrong shocks...

Can I ask why you like them? Ride better? Are they really more firm than stock? Any drawbacks??

If you can function with some loss of payload, Thuren springs with Overland shocks make for a very nice ride.

Just put 5100 on mine to get a big improvement in harsh bumps. Much smoother ride.

I have Fox 2.0's all around with 305/70/18 tires aired down to 45 f/r... Ride is much smoother. About to install Thuren 2" lifted springs with the specifically valved Fox shocks. I have OEM air, so keeping the Fox's in the rear with longer link for rear lift. Supposedly makes the ride very nice on highway, time will tell.. Install is Friday..
