Searched the forum and really only find info on lifted trucks or some other specialty. Searched the net and most info is 5+ years old.

@ 60K miles I'm thinking it may be time to replace the stock crappers on my 2014 2500 6.4 Hemi 4X4. I don't need anything crazy and am not going to pay $200/corner. On another HD truck I went with Monroe Reflex and they were nice. Definitely better than stock and I think they were around $60/each installed. I'm looking for something like that - stock or a tick better.

Thanks

Ranchos/billstien/or the ones you listed? Most people lvl or lift and go with a aftermarket application.

I've had good luck with Monroe reflex shocks. good "utility" shock at a reasonable price. meaning, to me they seem like they're nothing special but get the job done, usually better than OEM.

Only other shock I've tried were bilstein 5100s. bit more costly, seemed more firm than monroes. but both were on a 1/2 not a 3/4.

when it comes time, I'll probably go Monroe.

i was disappointed in the monroe reflex the last time i put them on an HD. bilstein 4600's are a good choice and not too expensive. ive also used kyb monomax and they seemed pretty nice as well. cheaper then the bilsteins too.

On my 1500 when the time comes, I will check out KYB. No idea if they service the HD trucks.

I have the off road package and the Bilstein shocks and they do a really nice job, very pleased. Probably the best choice for a stock 2500, well tuned for the truck.

The only thing that worries me is the price from FCA. Not sure what they want for them as a separate purchase. The whole off road package was only a $495 add on so they can't be that crazy, but who knows?

If you can get them for a reasonable price, it's a good way to go for a stock 2500.

Another vote for Bilsteins. That's what I'm replacing mine with soon. I've put them on previous vehicle and loved them, improved handling too. Plus, I need to match the stock rear axle anti-axle wrap shock lol.

Have you done a bounce test? I wouldn't automatically assume they're bad just based on mileage. A good bounce test is a good start or if you can see leakage. Other than that, what kind of use do you use your truck? Just city and road driving, or farm/contractor use?

This is a good question and no I haven't. But, I remember doing bounce tests on my Toyota Corolla 30 years ago. Not sure I can really "bounce" this 7500# truck :)

I suppose the question I should have asked also is, at 60K are you guys finding your shocks need replacing?

My last truck was an 06 Silverado 2500 and it was just an accepted thing that the stock shocks were trashed quickly. I replaced them at about 60K and noticed a HUGE difference so I guess that is what I was going off of.

For what you are looking for at that price point, a set of Bilsteins are hard to beat

Does the ride feel bouncy, or what do you seem to be experiencing?

Your GM shocks could have been shot, or could also be that you went to a higher performing shock like Bilsteins which are valved differently, probably a little stiffer, and maybe even double-acting. That would make a noticeable difference. If you liked what you had, maybe stick with the same. :)

I had the Bilstein 4600 on my 1500 for over 130k and no issues I really liked them. This time I did the 5100’s which are about the same honestly. I would recommend both they last a long time.

I test drove a new F350 that a friend bought and it just felt tighter. Of course, the ride was still firm/harsh like any HD truck but when getting back in my truck it just seemed a bit loose in comparison. Shocks are just tough because they wear out so gradually. I'm in this truck for the long haul and know I'll have to do them at some point so I might as well do it so I get the enjoyment/use out of the new stuff.

Thanks everyone - It seems like it pretty much comes down to Bilstein or KYB

This is what I want but I also want to know if they are actually built specifically for these trucks or if that is a marketing gimmick.
