Looking for some noise disappointed in the lack of sound. Any concerns about cutting it off and leave it terminated at that point? I thought I saw someone had **** melting??

I took off the reso but made up the length there with simple pipe. That kept the exhaust from doing any damage to brakes, lines, sensors, etc...

I removed mine and did not extend the exhaust. That was over 7k miles ago and all is good underneath.

Poor choice. Not only do you run the risk of heat melting ****, you run the risk of exhaust gases not being carried out from under the vehicle and potentially migrating back into the cabin.

I cut mine off as soon as I got it home from the dealer.:superhack:
This will only add a slight rise in exhaust sound. I took mine off cause it looks absolutely ridiculous.
I had mine off (as others on here) for about a year with nothing melting & no fumes in the cab. I have my back slider open a lot, so if there were fumes getting in the cab I would have been asleep at the wheel a long time ago.:sleepy10:

I should have mentioned before, when I installed the CAI it gave the truck more growl under the hood without adding loud exhaust. For $300 it didn't do much for performance but it sounds good. :happy107:
I installed same thing on our 3.6L Durango & seen much better results with it.

For those who simply cut it off, did you experience drone?

As I mentioned before, very little tone difference. Hard to believe they hang that ugly thing on there for no more than it does.

Different people have different tolerances for drone- 80% of people will tell u they can't notice when the mds is active. I for 1 think it is blatenty obvious when mds is active due to motor tone and drone- I still have my resonator and I fear how much I would hate the drone if I cut it off- Maybe I am just sensitive to these things. But like I said everyone is different.

I used to be an audio engineer so I am sensitive to all of these frequencies as well. Again I personally feel that it doesn't affect the exhaust tone much.
Two weeks ago I did something that didn't work out for me at all! I had an duel in duel out Flowmaster 50 HD Series installed & dumped it before the rear axle. I did this because here in the salt belt that portion of the exhaust rusts out way before the rest of the exhaust.
To get to your point of "people have different tolerances" WillRam2500 on here did the exact same thing to his 6.4 except he used Flowmaster 40 series mufflers (a louder muffler) & loves it. The drone on mine starts at 1,600rpm & is unbearable. It bounces from the ground up to the floor board & vibrates the whole truck. I will be making an appointment to have tail pipes welded on ASAP!

After I replaced my stock exhaust with a FM 50 Series HD I left the resonator on.
About a week later I cut it off with sawsall and its been like that now for I guess a couple years.
It did melt my duraflap mud flap just a bit but its not bad.
I have been looking for just a small deflector tip I could install.

I hated the look of the resonator so I painted it to match the differential and other chassis related gear to make it less noticeable. I didn't want to change the sound at this point.

Here are some pics of the paint job. I really like the results:

I absolutely notice the change in MDS....I installed a Magnaflow muffler, and left the resonator on. It made the MDS stuff even worse....ugh.

I am almost afraid to cut off the resignator at this point, though many folks say it doesn't make a big difference.

Thanks for the props...

It's made it go from looking like a cheap eyesore to blending in with the other components. My only gripe at this point is the angle of the tip -- Wish is were more horizontal to the ground like the Cummins Trucks...

Seems like I read somewhere that they do that to help the condensation run out.

Try just running it in Manual mode in 6th. I have a Magnaflow 19200 system on mine and there is really no Drone at all. Works well.

I did the same thing only I painted all the way to the end of the tailpipe too. I dont eben notice that beacon in the back anymore. That with a MF 12909. I am sensitive to droning because I tow alot. It was quiet the first couple of weeks but when the muffler burned in a little, it sounds real nice. no drone. Reminds me of a diesel sound when in MDS. I like it.
