There is some sort of flapper/valve in the muffler. I'd bet that was the culprit.

It seems so much easier for the service writers/techs to listen to you when you are telling them what you believe the problems are with your truck, instead of automatically thinking your a ******** and then treating you like one. At least wait till I prove I am a ******** before you act that way toward me!!!!!

In their defense, I bet they probably see more dumb asses in a day than anyone should have to :D

But if you've ever been there before, they should know if you are already... LOL

Some of you don't give the dealers enough credit. Think it's easy to diagnose? Go be a tech. And then figure out how to get paid to diagnose a stupid squeak or rattle. We aren't on salary guys. It can be a pain in the ass putting 4 hours into a squeak or rattle and then getting paid a half hour to fix it. This kind of crap ****** me off when I read all the criticism of dealers and their techs. You have no idea.

I do feel bad for the techs that have to deal with this. But, it shouldn't be the concern of the customer that has a warranty, paid good money for the product, and just wants the problem fixed.

Did you actually read the entire thread? OP gave a "shout out" to the dealer/tech who was finally able to resolve the issue. It was a legitimate issue and in both cases was resolved by replacing the muffler. Not the customer's fault that another tech misdiagnosed the issue, and not the customer's fault that FCA only pays 1/2 hour diagnostic time.

I can certainly understand the frustration of not getting paid for valid diagnostic time, but blame FCA. Kind of a stupid blanket rule if you ask me.

I agree with the stupidity of the diagnostics. However , I read post after post after post of "stealership" stories and whatever else you want to call dealerships. Trust me I have the upmost respect for all customers that come through my shop and I always try and provide the best service possible . I just wish everyone would have some empathy about what we go through as technicians. The appreciation for what we do as techs to keep yalls damn vehicles on the road without issues is insane and almost non existent. What would any of you do without us being the technicians that have to provide the warranty and service work required? Y'all would be lost. It's the main reason why I try and respond to as many posts as i do to help out. Yet because I'm a dealership tech, no one tends to listen. And you know what, that's ok. You can take advice from other people. I'll eventually just stop giving my advice and my diagnostic procedures to people on here. (I know i gave no insight on this one) but I have on many. Either way, I just wish people knew and understood.

As I mentioned, I do sympathize with the techs and what they have to go through with their employers. But it still shouldn't be a concern of the customer. I as a customer am dealing with the dealership and/or FCA, not the tech. I don't pay the tech, I pay the dealer or have prepaid the dealer/FCA via a warranty. The only thing I should be concerned with is that the dealer/FCA uphold their agreement to fix my vehicle.

Now, if I don't have a warranty, then I'm at the mercy of whatever the shop I decide to go to charges for diagnostics.

What you have to remember is that most occupations where they service the public feel underappreciated. I'm in IT, and I know that most people that want their computers fixed think we just plug it into our computer and push a button and it's fixed. They have no idea what goes into working on computers. But, that isn't their job, they just pay the bill and want it NOW. And if their computer is under warranty, then we deal with the same issues on who gets billed for the time and how much will they pay.

I paid a lot of money for this truck, with the understanding that if something was wrong with it the warranty would cover the repair.

One dealership basically told me to **** off. One dealership correctly identified the problem and fixed it.

My purpose was not a general rant against dealerships, or Ram, or anyone.

If I were to have more work done on the truck, I would do it at the dealership that employed the tech who knew what he was doing.

Too many techs are parts replacement specialists rather than knowledgeable about the vehicles they work on.

At Rairdon in Kirkland, WA - they employ a tech who knows his vehicles and cares about his job. I applaud that.

As a customer, I could not care less how you get paid. It isn't my issue. I buy a product and expect it to be stood behind.

When it isn't, I rant. When it is, I praise.

Again, one more shout out for the fine folks at Rairdon in Kirkland, WA.
