TAILGATE weight capacity?... 3/4 & 1-ton trucks

cant seem to find any info on this. just a lot of guessing and personal experiences. unloading pallets with steel weldments on it always makes me cringe as the forks are never long enough to get it in one grab. you always have to pull it out half way and sick her in again...

is there an actual published rating?

That is a PITA if you have a tail gate with a back up camera and auto locks. I gave up after an hour of trying to get the harness disconnected.

And remember that your pallet will never be 100% on the tailgate. I've unloaded many pallets with steel weldments from previously owned RAMs (oilfield service) and never had an issue. If worried, distribute the weight with plywood/boards or as mentioned, take the tailgate off.

Also remember, 2000lbs of steel on a pallet is less than 2psi of displaced weight.

Agreed on the difficulty/awkwardness of the harness when you've got the camera and yer fingers can't quite get the grip you need and there's that little thing you have to flip and yer trying to pop it without tweaking the wiring....

I routinely put 500-600# worth of batteries at the end of the tailgate, and then step my 205lb self up at the end of it as well.
