Hey all seeing as my POS firestone transforce tire are already wore out at 14,000 mi. I need some recommendations for replacement. Here's what I'm looking for: I need something that's good in the snow and ice. I also need something that can handle mud, so I can get my camper in and out of hunting camp. And better tread life than 14000. I don't want a dedicated snow tire and I know I'll be sacrificing a little winter performance there. I thinking an all terrain or a hybrid like the Goodyear duratrac. And advice would be great

I'm in the same position as you. I've had BFG-KO2 tire on my 1/2 ton and they were awesome, but many people say they wear fast on 3/4-1 ton trucks. I'm going to buy 275/65/R20 Duratrac tires within the next month for my 1 ton SRW. There are a lot of good reciews on the Duratracs.

FYI - I live in Northern Michigan with lots of snow & ice.

I have Nitto EXO Grapplers on my truck. They are Nitto's Heavy Duty All Terrain AWT tire and make a great all around tire. They ride smooth, are fairly quiet for an aggressive tread, and wear very well on 3/4 tons. I've got about 4000 miles on mine and they are doing great. They are also rated with the 3-peak mountain snowflake for winter driving conditions. Give them a look, they get great reviews.

Awesome thanks for the advice. Anyone know if a 295/70 18 or 305/70 18 will fit on a stock truck without a leveling kit

I had the duratrac on a keep and they were awesome but I wasn't sure how they'd wear on a 3/4ton diesel

I'm a Cooper fan- But I hear good things about the Nittos- especially the trail grappler. A lot of guys on the forum running the trail grappler and getting 50k out of them. If they hook and provide that kind of mileage... then they sound like the #1 tire to run.

Without a doubt stay away from the KO2's, they wear HORRIBLY. While I was never a big Cooper fan in the past, my ST Maxx's have been great all around and wearing well.

Though proposition. There is not a lot of tires that wear well while providing maximum levels of grip. I too have really loved the BFG AT KO2 but never ran them on HD truck.
Hearing that they wear out quick on an HD makes me wonder what the heck I would go with if I go to an HD myself especially when some the recommendations I have seen wear poorly on 1500 I would think they would be really bad on an HD. I might lean toward Toyo or even a moderately mild tread like the Michelin M/S2. Tuned in to see what you get.

KO2s are pretty good... IF YOU HAVE A TOYOTA TACOMA!

Anything else they suck! Stay away for sure.

Nitto wear somewhat fast, Toyos seem to be the best for HD trucks!

Anyone have any experience with the General Grabber AT2? I had a set of their all weather street tires on my last truck, but thinking about going with the AT2 on my Ram 1500, just haven't decided on size because I'm not sure how many mpg I'm willing to sacrifice. [emoji23]

I have terra grapplers on my 2500. Got about 30K on them now. I got them because I had good luck on m 1500 before. Think I got close to 50K out of a set. I have 35s now but am looking for 37s next. Probably going to try something different this next go around. Hoping I make it through the winter with these.

I'm running 285/75R18 Toyo AT2. Basically a 35x11.50 tire. It even says that on the sidewall. Running on my stock 18 wheels. Put them on with no lift at all and had no rubbing whatsoever. I'm now running 3" Front and 1.5" Rear lift and they still look great imo. I have about 23000 miles on them and would guess about 40% tread left. It's a great tires. Seems to be getting louder as there wear down.
I think my next set of tires will be

Been reading great reviews on these on HD trucks and the price is awesome.

Setex-
I ran 2 sets of guard dogs on my old half ton and my brother still has a set on his 98 F250 7.3 -
They will blow ur mind will how well they hook. I have been hesitant to run them on my 3/4 ton due to the weight difference of the truck over my old half ton. On my old truck I abused the living hell out of it with those tires and the tires always held up. I ran them in -15 degree temps to 125 degree temps and they always did fine. I never tried the ledge grip but have heard nothing but good things about the enhanced grip. I know the treaswright tires are really popular among 1/2 tons and jeeps - especially for the price. My brother just put a set of the bfg tread pattern style on his wife's Durango and they are pretty happy with them as well.
Just remember to have them static balanced.

The duratracks that you are wanting to put on measure out to be 34s, right? What’s your current setup? I mean truck/model with lift or no lift.

Look no further than the Cooper ST Maxx in 295/70/18 on my stock 2500. Loving these things. :word:

The rapid wear on the K02 is the price to be paid for the improved winter performance, which requires softer rubber mixes, especially for ice performance approaching that of a dedicated winter tire.
