So, I will finally be getting new tires on my stock Laramie wheels on my Mega Cab. Will not have any level, just all stock. Have pretty much decided on the Cooper ST Maxx in 295/70-18 flavor. Here is my question. Do any of you have experience with this size tire on a stock setup and whether there is enough clearance so the real chains don't tear up the fenders when turning? Don't rally want to go down in size so hoping this tire size works with chains. Thanks

I would refer to the owners manual- I know some newer trucks you can only run cables- May not be the case with Rams- when a 4x4 is required to chain 99% of the population does not need to be out in driving- I am assuming u will be plowing- In any case - someone with a plow set up should chime in- Only way chains tear up your fender is if your driving to fast or they are not properly installed or tightend properly. Best of luck-
On a side note- the cables in my truck where the cheapest ones I could find on a Walmart shelf.. Just for show to keep chip happy when they want to see the box.. I think they are for a tire size of a Honda accord

Scarp- Just saw you are in SoCal- You waiting chains for a trip up to the mountains- Say .. Mammoth??

Ha! No plowing for me. THe chains are for several reasons. One, when we get some decent snow in the local mountains the HiPO like to see the chains if you are a 4x4 and usually make you put them on if you are a 4x2. UYEs, Mammoth is one of our usual destinations as well. We also travel to Oklahoma every year for Christmas or Thanksgiving. ON the off chance they have a nasty storm or we are at deer camp (middle of nowhere Oklahoma) I want to have chains available. We also intend to do some winter travels to Bozeman, MT in the next couple years.

In the end they will not get used much but I like to be prepared. The wife has no problem with me spending a couple hundred on real chains either. I also plan to run this size tire on this and future Ram 2500s for years to come.

In that case I would buy " Actual chains" and call it a day- I live by mammoth so I know all to well about chain restrictions- I assume ur truck is 4x4- And the only time u are required to chain up in Cali is R3- And 99% of the time when it is R3 chain controls they just close the roads. A decent set of M&S tires and you are set-
