This past weekend, I towed our 28ft Jayco TT to the local dealer 60 miles away with our new truck. The truck is a 2016 3500 CC SRW, 6.4l with 4:10 limited slip and trailer is roughly 9200lbs loaded. The truck pulled it really well, even better than expected. The 6.4 is thirsty though! Ended up around 9mpg, but gave the truck a good run. Prior to this I had a 2015 1500 Sport with 5.7 hemi & 8 speed trans. It had power, but didn't pull the camper as effortlessly as this beast. Very happy camper!

You have a lot more hills than most people I'm sure. I get around 11.5-22 I around town and 16-17mpg on the highway. My 1/2 ton was averaging 21mpg on the highway. Passing a large truck when pulling the camper didn't help. It got up to 80mph really fast.

Nice! Glad to hear it worked well for you. I have a 3.73 geared 2500 cc, but my camper is only about 6k loaded, so I'm expecting a good tow also. I'm hoping to find out in a month or two

I get 9-11mpg towing my 14' snowmobile trailer with 2-3 sleds on it but really notice from October to April that MN fuel really cuts my mileage I'd guess 3-4mpg thank god there looking out for us

I just got back from a weekend out with my 6.4, 3.73 gears, towing 11K 5th wheel. This is my 4th year with the truck and 2nd with the bigger RV (had an 8500# TT previously). I have to say as I get more familiar with the bigger load I'm more and more impressed with the truck.

There are always things it could do better but 410HP is A LOT of ponies. I'm able to maintain 55 or better on some pretty steep grades and was loaded with people and gear. I actually weighed in at 10,300# on the truck axles today and 8500# on the trailer axles. Getting pretty close to my GCWR of 19,500.

I'm probably a bit heavier than ideal with this truck but OP, you've got a great setup. Between a couple thousand less pounds, a better rear end ratio and the better aerodynamics of the TT vs. 5th you've really got it dialed in.

Yes I'm am impressed on how these 6.4L preformed, my TT is about 37" long and about 9,500 to 10,000 lbs and my truck tow it well.

i get 9 mpg's not pulling anything in my 2500 6.4

I hand calc 12.5-13 with mine having 3.73 gears and 37's...I hand calc'd up to 16-16.5 running straight highway. 9 is insane, I couldn't get that if I tried. Hell, pulling 12k with aforementioned gears and tires, I still hand calc'd 11.

I have the 3.73 also and will say i wish i had the 4.10 or lower when pulling. 1st and 2nd gears are way to long. 2500lb trailer, 7000lb tractor +. But love the 3.73 when cruising the highway with no trailer. 17-20 mpg easy. 2014 2500 crew 2wd 8'bed. 86,000 miles and only dealer recalls.

I get 9.5 towing our tt. Jayco 314bhds. I would say around 9k loaded up. My evic said 11 when I calculated. Truck always reads 1.5 proud of itself. This truck sure does tow well in the area I live which is mostly flat. Good to hear you are having fun in the new truck. I put some load range E tires on our camper recently. Cant wait to give them a try and see how much better it pulls.

We considered upgrading our trailer's tires to E rated as well. Please let me know how they work out. What brand did you purchase? Our trailer does quite well, but the tires only have 3000 miles on them. Had one get a screw cause a leak when. A king into a site.

I don't do trailer tires any more. AT ALL. My TT now wears Michelin LTX 16" E-Rated tires and they are great. Better weight capacity, better speed rating, MODERN design, and better reliability.

Only thing not to like is the price, but the peace of mind is well worth what they cost.

Don't really have any good pics, just a couple normal ones...nothing with it all cleaned up with an actual good camera. Power is definitely lacking a little with the 3.73's, but that's to be expected. You get stuck in a weird area where you don't want to chug along in 6th gear driving 65-70mph...it's much easier at 80mph in 6th where you get your rpms up to 1800 or so (doesn't hit 2k until 91mph). And in 5th it's great until you're over 70mph, then you're looking at 21-2200rpms, which is a little higher than I'd like. With 37's and 4.56's, you should hit 2k rpms at 75mph, which is ideal for the highways I drive on.

Wow, that is one nice TT you have, I look at it on the Jayco website it's longer than mines, mines is 36' 9". Let us know how those 'E' rated tires work out I would love to upgrade mine but I only have about 1000 miles if that.

I'd like to be 2-2250 rpms on the highway as that's really where power band starts and it'll require the engine to work less despite the rpm. What I've realized is the two tires im considering the 37s are 5-7 lbs heavier than their 35 version so that's not that much where itd make a difference that's noticeable. But 37s fit these big ass 2500s better.

Ok sorry to thread jack.

I am closing in on 13K miles and there has been no appreciable gain in MPG. Mine is doing a little better than what you report, but I really drive for MPG, not a hyper-miler, but definitely on the grandpa side of the scale. If I drove a bit more for fun, I could easily drop a couple MPG.

I'm with you there, the mileage can be abysmal in the hills/mountains. Towing heavy the fuel gauge moves like there's a hole in the tank. Was hoping after 20K miles the mileage would get better but hasn't.
