Has anyone found this in a parts list or diagram? It has to be listed.

@ the OP

I asked about this seal on my 1500 ( near full length of cab) about 3 months after I purchased my truck I hit a deer and had the entire right side of my truck replaced ( front fender , both doors and R/S of the box .)

Anyway the body shop had the bed off , I asked about that seal , they said it was there to keep road grime and such (while road is wet ) from sucking up between the cab and the box and sticking to the back window .

Not sure how true this is , but I left it on .

An update for those that are interested. I got under my truck again a look at it real good. Only goes from frame rail to frame rail so it does not go the full width of the bed. I ended up ripping it off as my truck Has less than 4000 miles on it and the weatherstrip is rubbing the paint off. There were a few spots that didn't have paint left.

Before the body shop put my bed back on , I installed 2ea layers of anti-chafe tape on the back of the cab , I only had like 1500 miles on my truck and it was already wearing through the paint a bit .

I've been wondering if this was rubbing paint off there. Off it comes this afternoon. Hopefully theres some paint left as its been on my truck for 3+ years and 21000 miles...

Unless you live in Arizona I would HIGHLY recommend taking this piece of **** off your trucks.

Spraying some fluid film on for the time being...

Yes definitely a good call! That's on the cab, the bed side where that was is perfectly fine...

My only reservation now that it's off is you can see the top of the fuel pump. Hopefully that wont present a problem with it getting rained on now...

Edit: Think I'll put it back on with some Fluid Film in between the seal and the cab. I'm hoping it'll act like a lubricant and stop the rust that's there. Really don't like how exposed the fuel pump is...

probably there to protect the fuel pump from taking direct hits from objects falling between the bed and body.

Well now you got me thinking. good thing i kept it. maybe I will put some tap on the cab like others have said, spray the shi$ out of it with fluid film and put it back on with some zip ties.

going to try to think of a better way though.

That's what my dealer told me exactly. I started a thread last year on this same issue because I never noticed this seal till it was too late. I haul a lot of mulch and dirt in my truck, which happened to fall in between the bed and cab. I have a few areas back there that the paint is wore of from the trapped material. At least now that I know about it I wash that area every time I unload.

As I've said , I installed anti-chafe tape on my cab when the body shop had my bed off for repairs from hitting a deer ...

I had only aprox 1500 miles and my paint was already showing signs of wear .
It's pretty easy to unbolt the bed and shift it back a foot and clean / repair and install some sort of anti-chafe material on the cab .

well I haven't had a chance to reinstall this weather strip thing and we got 2 1/2 inches of rain within 15 minutes when I was at the gym. In the back of my mind was the comment about water getting on the fuel pump. Didn't have any issues. This was only one instance.

I just removed mine. ( 2016 Ram 3500 )
August 20th it will be 1 year old and 6700 miles.
My paint is scuffed, but noting rubbed through.
I may hit it with some clear paint anyway just to be sure it is sealed.

By the way, I hear it is there so tie straps / rope / etc don't get drawn ( from air ) between the bed and cab, then wraping around the drive shaft.

Thats an interesting theory as to why it's there. Another person was told that it's their to prevent air from coming up from the road and get the back window dirty.

Now we need somone that knows the arodynamics of the trucks and if air gets sucked down the space or pushed up from the road. I could see both happening.

Thanks for your post sir.
