I saw that a while back that The Harness Connection was working on creating an alternate Wiring Harness for the OEM Backup Camera. I haven't seen anything more on it or what the outcome decision was, and I don't see an option for it on your website. So....here is an idea that I had that you can maybe use as a base for your harness if you're still looking to do something in that area. I have a 2013 Tradesman, so populating the connector by the DS Front Wheel Well would not work. I still have to verify a few things, but this is how I'm planning on installing mine when I get there. From looking over the TechAuthority system diagrams, pin-outs etc. and reviewing all the articles on here, I think this should work and be a pretty Universal Trim option without cutting/splicing any wires.

First is obviously replacing the tailgate handle with the camera mounted one, and replacing the harness inside the tailgate (if needed). Then starting at the I550 tailgate connector by the spare tire running the harness along the chassis as directed until the I320(I220) connector by the DS Front Wheel well. From here instead of splicing in the PDC, pass everything through the firewall. Either via the cutting the nipple in the current grommet, or drilling through the spare plate and using another grommet and sealing.

Next run the Camera Signal, Camera Return and Camera Shield to the Radio C1 (again standard).

Now run the Lin Bus CBC 3 and Run Relay Control either up the A-Pillar to the headliner and then to the back of the cab and over to highmount brake light/cargo light. Here there's supposed to be an I440 connector that feeds power to the lights, but it also carries the Lin Bus and Run Relay on pins 5 & 6 respectively. I checked quite a few VIN's on TechAuthority and they all showed that they should have the Lin Bus and Run Relay in the I440. Populate the Female connector with the remaining wires in their respective pins and you've got your Backup Camera circuit complete without having to cut or splice any wires.

Alternatively, to save on a few feet of wire, you could feed the harness in from under the carpet in the back of the cab. There should be a few plastic oval plugs you could remove and replace with a grommet and seal. Then you just feed the Camera Signal wires along the door seals to the front to the radio, and the Bus and Run Relay up the DS Rear pillar to the headliner and I440.

Just my thoughts on it so far as I've been trying to figure out how to put mine in without cutting/splicing.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Once I complete and check everything I'll post pics and notes for others.

I have a schematic of jeepguy1980's harness and part numbers linked somewhere. (Posted previously)...

PS: @ TxAggie
If you want more info and part numbers for modifying the official Mopar kit to be like jeepguy1980's, see...
MOPAR Backup Camera (82214240) Installed like JeepGuys
If you scroll up a few posts there, you will see the link to the schematic for jeepguy1980's harness I made with the full PN list.
(But it could bite you in the ass if you are missing the wiring between the C322 (@left wheel) and i315 (@brake pedal) connectors).

1500Ram12 may be able to tell you the pin part numbers for the PDC if they are the same as the fog light pins...

Yes, I've looked at those. Even with his harness, for the Tradesman/Express I think he had you feeding a wire into the fuse box or something. This way would require no cutting/splicing factory wires and should be universal to all trims.

Cuylertech said recreating the Ramharness would be too expensive due to the pins for the I322. To make it even easier/cheaper this kit could just be an add on to the oem kit.

Follow the oem directions, except pass ALL wires through the firewall. Then inside (or before going through the firewall) add an additional length or wire with pins for the chmsl connector (which should be the same pins used for the overhead console) to the run relay and line bus. Then it's just routing it up the headliner to the connector and populating.

Anyway just passing my two cents. This is how I'll be doing it. I'll post pics and details when I do. The only thing preventing everyone from this route is the pins for the chmsl connector. Not easy to find in small quantities, plus you need the crimp tool. Hence the benefit of the harness connection offering the extensions.

Here's the I440 connector, on a crew(likely quad as well) cab it's in the pillar just above the seat belt on the rear passenger side. Very easy to get to. And I verified it's got the Lin bus and run relay wires. So would just have to populate the other side of the connector.

Could just get this.... Plug and play, and camera puts out a better picture than the oem cam overall...

Integrated Backup Camera System for 2013 2015 Dodge RAM | eBay

Thanks for offering the suggestion, but this was looking for a way to make a cleaner installation of the OEM Camera system. Some of us want to keep with the OEM set-ups for their cleaner look and integrated features. Just looking over this link it doesn't look like that camera has the moving guidelines like the OEM. It also says that power needs to be drawn from a 12 volt adapter. Again the OEM solution suggested was looking for a way to have everything working without having to splice anything or having a power puck in the accessory outlet.

Again, thanks for the suggestion though.

The guidleines on that setup don't Curve when you turn the wheel, But the camera picture is much better than OEM quality IMO. You don't have to do any splicing with this setup either, it has an active 12v feed in the harness, you just insert you camera power wire(included) into the butt splice connector already int he harness and bam, full function, as OEM, without the hassle

Does anyone know where I can order some female pins that plug into the RA4 radio connector?

@Granite,
did you actually order the Yazaki pins for the other end (Cab end/C322; mislabeled as i220) of the chassis harness connector and crimp em on or did you rob and splice them from another vehicle?

PS:
- I located and updated info on the tailgate connector end (i550) here
(Mouser does have the female 22Awg Sockets 54002220 in stock currently)

- and you can reference the Yazaki and other pin info (courtesy of you and Cptwing) in the original thread's Post 403 for additional connector Pin info.

the original thread's Post 403 for additional connector Pin info[/URL].

and I have created a harness schematic for it:
- JeepGuy1980 Camera Harness Schematic by Mpgrimm2.png

Click the harness schematic link quoted to get the radio C1 connector pin part numbers, Mouser likely has them.
So, did you cut off & splice the wrong ones for the camera?

I just ordered them from Mouser, Part #:571-1376109-1. Yep, I cut off the wrong wires for the radio. I'll be reconnecting those today. Then once I get the new pins I'll attach those and insert those three wires into the CORRECT holes this time and hope the camera comes on. It should unless I burnt something up in the radio because of the incorrect wiring I did. :mad3:
