2001 Dodge Ram Upgrades

Just got my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and I am going to post some evolution pictures to keep track of my upgrades. I will be installing many parts in the next couple weeks.

This is how it begins...

First install:
Iron Cross front push bumper with a Warn ZEON-12 Winch
Lund RX Fender Flares
All with black Line-X Premium with UV top coat.

Rough Country 5" Lift installed... Now it should fit my 35s once I get them balanced and installed. Not sure how I feel about the rear lift stacking the blocks though. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

I would not be comfortable with stacking blocks at all.

Yeah... I was thinking of upgrading to a rear 4" leaf spring set. Anyone know of one? I can only ever find add a leafs.

Got the new wheels (17x9 Helo by Moto Metal) and tires (315/70r17 Treadwright Guard Dogs) installed...

And the rough country dual steering stabilizer...

SCT tuner came in and installed flawlessly. Even kept my pinion factor adjustment from the dealer so the speedometer is accurate still. From what I've heard... Gear changes don't affect the pinion factor due to the tone ring in the differential. Only tires affect it? Anyone have any experience on this?

Installed the 4.56 gears and TruTrac differential... breaking it in now. No gear noise at all, and the local guy said motive gears are noisy?

Motives do have a history of being a little noisy, but I have installed some that were whisper quiet and some that always hummed a little. I've never installed a set that were loud enough to be offensive though, every set I've seen that were really loud were not installed correctly and the gears were blamed instead.

Many cheap kits such as Rough Country require stacked blocks on Rams and Fords. Reason being, the factory block has the arm for the bump stop, requiring you to keep the factory block installed on the truck. Higher end kits, such as BDS, give you a 3/4" tapered block and an add-a-leaf for the rear lift, to which the tapered block is only installed to pitch the pinion angle up for the drive shaft, the lift is achieved through the add-a-leaf.

BDS sells the replacement rear leafs, though the leafs the sell are the same for the 3/4 ton trucks. Ride will be a little rougher than a 1500 Ram with blocks, but would be similar ride quality if you had the add-a-leaf.

Has anybody ever used these headers on their truck? This is a pretty good deal for stainless steel headers @ $128. I noticed that most aftermarket shorties have a 2.5" collector and these state a 2" collector? I'm curious on any ones input...

I'm pretty sure no one is/has run them. Honestly man, save up the money and drop it on a trusted brand that's earned it's name and is backed with warranty. I just would hate for you to get them and run a few heat cycles on them and they start fracturing or something more catastrophic.

They look cheap. I have Pacesetter on my truck and love them. Developed a small leak a few weeks after install, but a quick retorque and they've been great since. Have about 15k on the exhaust and no issues.

Yeah. Its the Coates ones that started getting pricey. Do you have the painted ones or coated ones? And how are they holding up?
