Damn that's messed up lol, I've heard of diesel guys doing the same but gas because the handle was green. You would think nobody would switch that around but obviously some stations have

Speaking of towing my truck, I don’t think I’ve ever told the story of the day I bought it. I had a really bad e person even purchasing the truck and getting my title realized by the shady dealer I bought it from. So when I finally went to pick it up and drive it home, I stopped at a BP gas station. I was really excited to get home and start working on it, didn’t pay attention and grabbed the black handle gas pump. Turns out BP has black handled diesel pumps, and green handle gas pumps. So I ended up putting 12 gallons of diesel in it [emoji23] as soon as I finished pumping I realized my mistake, so I drove it to the corner of the parking lot and parked it. Had to drive half an hour home, get my brothers truck and trailer. I left, 15 minutes later I realized I left the truck key in the other car, so I had to wait for my wife to drive out and give me my key haha. It was a terrible day..
Lol oh man that’s insane lol

Finally finished the body work, and got the glaze coat applied. I thought it was good enough yesterday, but after seeing it out in the daylight, my dad convinced me to keep going. So he came out to help and we put another 8 hours into it. I really needed that kick to finish it right, I was getting pretty over it. Had to run to Summit to pick up another gallon of Rage, didn’t have the Gold in stock so I had to by the next higher grade Rage. It seemed to work really nice. I went and picked up the trailer for next week. I am hoping we get rained out at work Monday so I can completely finish it, then get it to the painter Monday evening or Tuesday, we will see what happens. I’m so close to being done!! The truck went into the garage on November 21, it’s been almost 10 weeks at this point

Well it’s been 10 weeks since the truck has been down. I bought the engine and started on this particular project in August. My first engine rebuild started in July, since then I’ve never really had it running full power since it messed up. And I still have the transmission swap to do this summer

The good news is ... it's only been 10 weeks and not 1-2 years like some other people's builds.
I went to Summit Racing today and was messing around with the shifters on display. I kinda like the TCI Outlaw like you have. How annoying is it with the reverse lockout switch? That was the only thing I didn’t like about it. And how did you mount it to your center console? I have the same console in my truck. That’s going to be my next project.

I have a lot of MDF laying around so I built a base to raise the shifter to the desired height. The console has a very nice flat, solid, inner bottom that lends itself perfectly to making it fit. I used the bolt holes in the console to mount my base so it’s plenty strong. Once you get used to the reverse lever it’s not bad, I just wish it was single hand operation, purely for convenience during daily driving. I’ve thought about a few ways to doctor it to make it 1-hand capable but I haven’t tried anything yet.

Very nice [emoji1303] I figured it was a base mounted to that flat plastic. I might have to mess around with it for the lockout

Thank you! I have always loved the 3rd gens. I keep looking at the new trucks and would love one, but there’s something about a simple truck you can do all kinds of mods and not worrying about all the computer crap the new ones come with. Plus parts are way cheaper haha

That's why I'm keeping my base model 2012 because you have convinced me a stroker kit is the way to go

Starting a thread showing the progress of my first truck. I bought it used for only 5k knowing I needed to put in some work on it. I have a lot of mod plans for the truck as money is available and I'm enjoying working on it in my spare time.

Getting it off the lot, first thing done was taking off the completely rusted out exhaust and replacing it with a summit racing cat back c048c43ab9b0a96024bb5c465c15093a.jpg
Debadged and removed the pin striping
New audio system
Cranked the torsion bars up for a 2" level
Removed the step bars

Rebuilt the heads due to a head gasket leak from the previous owners neglect. Got a valve job done and new pushrods

New front bumper, headlights, fog lights and light bar. I sanded down both bumpers and applied a spray on bed liner to them. I was really happy with the results

Plastidipped the grill
5% tint on the back window and 20% on the front windows
New bolt on flares
Future plans are adding shorty headers, CAI, a tuner, and rims and tires. One thing at a time!

Which flares are those?
