Longhorn in Australia / Right Hand Conversion

Hi All,

For those who have been reading my threads, I've been doing a 3 month process to get a Ram 2500 Longhorn shipped to Australia.

I've never sat in, yet alone driven a 2500 RAM so its a big risk to do this.

Some good news yesterday, FINALLY the truck cleared customs and has been delivered to the factory for its Right Hand conversion. Its about a 2.5 hr flight away, so I STILL have never seen it, but got some photos yesterday.

So far I've sunk $70,000 USD into it and have another almost $30K USD to go.

I know you live with these trucks everyday and a stock longhorn may not be that exciting for you, but I'm pumped !

Looks like a beautiful truck. I can certainly see the excitement.
I don't think I'll ever understand the desire to spend that much for a truck though.

One thing thats different in Australia is that cars are generally MUCH, MUCH more expensive than the US. If you don't buy an Australian heap of crap your taxed and charged a lot for European or US cars. A fully loaded Cayenne is probably double what you'd pay... i.e.: $280K+

Wow! Is the right hand drive required or just a preference?

Its required from what i understand unless on a limited drive club permit. But with a truck of this size my wife and I agreed that its too dangerous to be left hand drive. People look for the drivers eyes when turning etc and people here would freak out with a truck this size and not seeing a driver in right hand seat.

If it was a weekend driver Mustang / Camero then might be different, but a daily driver ram is different.

Its hard to convey how much bigger this will be than anything else on Australian roads. My wife has a 4 door 2011 Jeep Wrangler and people tell us its WAY too big. Idiots.

Here is my previous 4x4. Sold it to cover some of Ram cost. Its one of the top 2 biggest cars (Approx) in Australia.

Its between a Tahoe and a Blazer in size (Approx). But taller.

This is the day we picked it up. About 18 months ago.

She wanted something bigger than a sedan as we have lots of crazy Kangaroos near where we live. I've already hit one, she was too scared in a sedan.

Isn't that standard bumper ? Our rules are pretty tight, so may be different.

Some think I'm absolutely crazy and some cannot wait to see it. Its hard to say how different the RAM will be here. It will be a head turner. I have personalised plates for it to stand out more ("RAM-000").

I've chatted to a few guys that I've seen with F Trucks (one this morning) and they said they that they always get rude notes under wipers and people sticking fingers up at them but they wouldn't change car if paid. There are a couple F Trucks around here, but they are also REALLY rare... most costing $135,000 USD.

There is there usual "You will ruin the environment". But they tend to drive sedans that in the end aren't much better on fuel. Plus I couldn't give 2 stuffs what these people think.

Those who bag it, I think are jealous. Not necessarily of the truck, but of the idea of a project of this size.

This will be the first 2500 I've seen here. I saw a 3500 in January which sparked my interest.

In the end, most people think the weirdest part is that I've never sat in or driven one.
