I bought a new truck Saturday. A 1973 Club Cab D200. It has a 383 big block and 3 speed automatic transmission. I have a 1989 That a wrecked about a year ago, that i have successfully swapped several parts from so far(seat, heater, fan, e.t.c). Many things don't work and will be fixed as funds become available. I plan to use the truck to work out of. I haul firewood often. usually 2-4 ricks(1-2 cords) at a time. I plan to get it bed-linered. (and maybe painted in a couple years)

*Pictures Coming Soon.

My main question at this point, it has a hesitation at WOT. I believe it is fuel supply/quality related. it has somewhat old gas in it, and i believe the fuel hoses and filters are also contributing. Thoughts? It's bogs for just a second when It gets floored, then starts gradually speeding up. if i don't mash the gas quickly it never does it.

Preservation is also on my mind. I am going to try to be very careful where I drive and how.

Not bad.
Good to see another Club Cab owner around these parts, big block at that.

Got a Dana 60 or what out back?

Its a open diff, I haven't looked at it. I wish I had a locker. In the woods, pulling that trailer... I was peg legging it everywhere.

Mine will light it up lol, I think mine is 4.10 also but I haven't checked. I'll look later.

Do you know anything about changing the steering shaft on the steering box? The one for my 1989 is much tighter(only has 35k miles on it) and everything is the same except the shaft.

lol Sounds like our trucks are similarly packaged.

You don't change the shaft that I know of, you replace the rag joint at the box, and there is a bushing further up the shaft that gets worn out.

There is also an adjustment screw on the box itself that can be tightened a bit for steering feel.

Both trucks are at home. I'm at work. But here is what I'm meaning, if that helps or not. I want to disconnect the shafts right at the box. I feel that it can be done, but I may have to open the boxes to do so.

The rag joint right at the box DOES separate, it just takes some beating in most cases.

There should also be some sort of bushing at the top of the shaft, closer to the firewall.
I can take a picture tomorrow if need be.

As for your sneak peak, I want some tail lights. lol Drivers side on mine is cracked.
What about the relay set up? Whatcha plannin' on there? ;)

That's for my heater and a few other things. The wiring on this truck has been cut and spliced everywhere. I like to do this the safe way with relays and fuses. I'm going to put my factory radio from the 89 in also. Tape player. Maybe with some 8" base just for grins. Theres alot of room behind the seat and I'm good with wood and fiberglass. That is all I will say at this time. ;D

I may also relay the headlights and put some higher wattage bulbs in them.

I am looking forward to see what you do as far as a stereo. I need some tunes from time to time in my 76.

Radio has been dead in this truck for years...
