Well since I've started stripping the truck down I figured I might as well make a thread to keep track of the body job progress.

I pulled the truck into the shop tonight after giving it a boost and cleaning most of the snow off of it. This is how it started the night.

So far I got all my billet grill inserts pulled out and license plate holder removed. Looks weird without the billet inserts lol

old grill removed, and about 90% of the plastidip pulled off the front bumper. The plastidip is what took up most of my time tonight. There was definitely a few spots I should've sprayed it on a little thicker.

Not sure when I'll have time to get back to it again. Might have to start pulling a few all nighters again to get it done!!!

Now that you have it off, if you'd have sprayed the plastidip with de-solv-it it softens it up and you can hose it off

Damn!! I knew there must've been an easier way to get it off lol. This was the first time I'd ever used/removed plastidip before. Man is it ever good stuff.

Thanks man!! I'm just going to get it resprayed black. I love the look of the black but man is it a ***** to keep clean!! Lol

I've thought about changing the colour but if I did change colours I'd like to strip everything down and paint everything in the new colour. I hate it when you can still see the old colour in spots on a lot of vehicles. (Door jambs, engine bay, etc)

Well since we had some crazy snow storms that cancelled my other plans for tonight I got to spend some more tune on the truck. (Couldn't see 5ft in front of the car and barely made it the 1/4 mile down the road to my grandparents shop without ending up in the ditch!!)

Been waiting along time to say this but the truck is finally de-badged!!! Man do I hate removing the old adhesive from the badges. At least I didn't have to get it super cleaned up this time.

Also got the antenna removed (still debating on just shaving it off or not) as well as the rest of the front end stripped.

Drivers side door is also pretty well stripped.

This is going a lot quicker then I thought it would!! :D

Going back to the factory PX8 black. The truck has a metallic in it right now from the last paint job which just makes it a complete pain in the ass to ever do any touch ups or work on later. That is part of the reason the whole truck is getting redone. Nobody figures they can match the metallic that's in the paint right now.

Fair enough. Gonna clear it tho? You clear and buff that paint and it'll shine like a mirror.

Paint goes on then clear, now if you want it deep deep rich black smooth as glass get them to wetsand it before the clear goes on and then after a month wetsand and polish the clear. This will add $$$ but so worth it. We even used to wetsand between clear coats, this also adds time to get the truck back.

Btw there is nothing wrong with a well done Acrylic Enamel or Urethane paint job, last a hell of a lot longer than base clear does. I am not even sure you can still get those paint's up here for environmental reasons.

Ya i've got a few more questions for them when i drop the truck off. But i know whatever they do the truck will look great! They are one of the best known and best quality body shops around me.

They painted a pair of fenders for my old dakota a few years ago and all i did was peel a paint chip off my old fenders and they painted the new ones without ever seeing the truck. They matched the 11 year old paint on the rest of the truck perfectly when i put them on! Couldnt believe how well they matched. Never heard one bad thing about these guys.

I agree with acrylic and urethane paint jobs can be great as well. I actually used a urethane paint for my engine bay when i painted it.

Well been awhile since I've had any updates here. But I finally got my new mirrors, tailgate shave kit and steel roll pan the other day!!

Was feeling brave enough to do some cutting on my tailgate tonight so I installed the tailgate shave kit. I'm leaving the filler piece for the body shop to weld in though!!

Not sure why they make the plate so big for the tailgate handle. I decided to cut it down a bit for a little cleaner look. Either way the bedrug will end up hiding the plate once it goes back in.

The body shop is running a few weeks behind right now so while I'm waiting my grandpa and I are also going to build a mount for my two 8" light bars to shine out my bumper openings.
