Hi guys,

Look around for threads on how to bake my headlights and found nothing conclusive. So i thought i'd share my experience.

Step 1: Took off the grill with the 4 bolts on top
Step 2: Took out the headlight - two bolts. Took a bit of a pull to pop it out but, got there in the end..

Step 3: Baking the headlight - I've read a lot of different methods on how to do this. For this headlight i set the oven temp to 230. I baked the headlight for 20 minutes, checked it, then another 5 minutes.
Step 4: i got a flat head screw driver and started prying. Once i'd went around the headlight and released a lot of the sealant, it still won't pop off.
Step 5: I put it back in the oven for another 10 minutes.
Step 6: Start prying again. By this point you should be able to run the screwdriver in behind the plastic and get to where you can separate the screen from the headlight assembly. As much as it's a pain in the ass, try to remove as much of the factory sealant from the headlight as possible.
Step 7: Remove the parts of the headlight you are looking to change and go to town.

Step 8: connect all the headlights and reseal. To reseal the headlight i used permatex black silicone. i bought the large tube to go in my silicone gun. It was $11.50 at canadian tire, but lot's of places carry it.
Step 9: Clamp and Let it set - i've read a lot of people use clamps after putting in the silicone..i didnt have any and didnt want to buy some for this job. I actually covered the headlight with towels and placed it under my recliners in the basement, lol. It worked! i left it for around 24 hours, but just keep checking it.
Step 10: All done!

The first headlights i did, i blacked out the DRL. I wasnt a fan. I found the light output was'nt great and the tint didnt go on well.
I traded the headlight on kijiji for a factory set...worked out well for both of us.

The second set, i just blackout out the bezel. Really happy with the results. no condensation on either.

Nice DIY. I've had luck with past vehicles leaving the factory sealant in place, putting the headlight loosely back together and warming in the oven again till the sealant was sticky. Then pressing back together to reseal. The way you resealed is definitely the proper way. I just didn't want to mess with scraping the sticky crap.

That's what I always do, have tore apart probably 20-30 sets of headlights over the past few years. After that I will run a thin bead of silicone on the outside edge just for piece of mind

Have any of you guys tried putting oracles in your headlights? If so how reliable are they?

Really frustrating; all these links take me back to a " trending" forum. Just one big circle and no pics.

Same here. I think it's a mobile/Tapatalk thing. May work from a PC. Didn't work on mobile when viewed in dolphin browser either.

Perhaps the op can use photobucket.com for hosting the pictures or the forum's "manage attachments" button from pc side?

The write up is great, just would like to see some pictures

Not sure whats going on with the pics boys, i can see them from my laptop...would like you to see the pics to show the process. i've created an album called baking headlights in my profile. Not sure if you're able to check that out, but shows some before and afters if that helps.

I didn't realize we had the option of creating "albums" under our forum profiles...

I can see them from my pc/laptop, but attempting to view the forum's "profile/album" links via mobile browser or tapatalk for android breaks the ability to see the pictures.

Any chance you could also use the "Manage attachments" option ("Go Advanced" button) to attach up to 4 pictures directly (maybe more) to a post or perhaps use a free photo sharing service like photobucket which provides insertable forum links to "album" pictures hosted from its site?

It would be a shame for only folks with a pc to be able to view these as several folks only use a mobile device here. The headlights look great by the way.
