This panel is off my 16 Ram 2500. I installed a light bar and modded this panel, which is above the emergency brake release, to accept three switches. After using it in this location I found that my knee would hit the switch, as I'm a man of moderately large stature. So my loss is your gain.

Did you have any problems with this and the tow release lever hitting the back of the switches?

Not at all. Just my large legs sporadically hitting it when getting in the truck
