Have you checked new trailers lately? They aren't very bad big tex makes a nice trailer and if I'm not mistaken there metal tops are about 3200 wood tops are in the 1800 range we got our 18ft equipment hauler tandem 7k axles for 3200 very happy with there quailty. They make designated car haulers low and as wide as legal.

Yea I've looked at them. I can get a fairly nice steel top for $2,500 new, but I'd rather buy used and get a nicer trailer for the same money.
