ordered a 2014 2500 megacab August 8th and it is already in production with a September 2nd ship date. That's awesome. What sucks is at the time I ordered it apparently the 6.4l was not an option. I also didn't know that the 5.7 in the 2500 is not the one in the 1500. It doesn't have MDS so I am not going to get close to the gas mileage I have now. Talk about a kick in the nuts! I could cancel the order and start over but then I would have to wait even longer. It IS a 3/4 ton so a drop in mpg is not uncommon but damn I wish it was an option at the time! It's still going to be the truck I wanted...same engine that I have now as far as HP and torque.

Your down 12 HP.

I went from a '11 1500 RCSB 2wd to a '13 2500 CC 4wd and I'll be honest, it's a lumbering beast compared to the 1500. But you mash on that skinny pedal and it still flies! Doesn't feel near as fast, but damn that speedo needle moves quick! The PowerWagon clicked off a 16.2 in the 1/4. Not bad for a crew cab 2500 4x truck!

That's some serious **** that you're getting a 5.7 not a 6.4.
I'd assume you're also not getting the coil rear suspension too.

I assume that I am still getting the coil overs. From what I have read it is throughout the new 2500 line. I'm not too happy with the dealer. HE says that it wasn't available at the time, but what seems more realistic... he didn't look it up or they added it to the lineup 2 weeks later?

I dunno that I would take delivery on it. "I ordered a '13 with a 6.4, not a 5.7"

No chance I would take the truck with a 5.7 I drove a few megas with the hemi and didn't like it. I ended up getting a cummins, but had the 6.4 been an option I feel like I might of chose it.

I don't even like MDS, and 12 horses isn't a big deal when you are taking about a truck that has 400 of them. But if that is true about the coil back suspension, cancel. The coil back suspension is one of the greatest things about these rams, no more gut busting drives down country roads.

MDS does make a difference on long runs but I agree with most I would cancel and get the bigger motor imagine what that thing can be chipped and it is made to be beast top to bottom. The 5.7L is proven to be great though and 6.4L is unproven in this new design so that is a factor.

I am buying the truck because I wanted the extra room that the mega cab offers. I want more cab space for the kids and my stuff plus the full 6'4 bed unlike the 5'7 that I have now. Like Burla said, I don't think the 12 horses and the small change in torque will really change the get up and go that much since the 5.7 and 6.4 will have the same transmission. I don't have $6-7k to spend on a cummins.

I did drive a 2500 yesterday with a 5.7 at the dealership and it wasn't too bad. It was about what I had expected. The only reason I that stands out to me about getting the 6.4 would be the gas savings, and no one knows what that is so who knows if it is worth it.

I have to vote 'cancel and eait' as well.
\I asked my dealer last week, and they didn't have order codes to even ASK RAM for the 6.4 trucks with rear coils yet.
The 6.4 would be much nicer than the 5.7 in that platform but the rear coils would be a deal breaker for sure IMO.

where are you reading that the rear coils only come with the 6.4? from what I have read and seen rear coils are now standard on the 2500. From what I have read the only option for rear suspension on the 2500 is airbags.

I would just want to look under a potential '14 2500 and see them for myself, is all. I don't trust anyone.

oh yes, most definitely, I will be looking underneath the rear end first once it gets to the dealer. If they offered a mega cab on the 1500 I would have gotten that, but they don't.

Buddy, one regret you wont have is buying the 1500, the 2500 is the way to go.

I personally would cancel it and get the 6.4L. The torque curve is going to be a lot lower and you will probably get better economy as well.

If it were me i would cancel and wait because you might as well have your new truck the way YOU want it, You are the one paying for it and will be the one driving it so if you have to wait a month or two longer that is time better spent than spending years wishing you had waited and got the truck the way you wanted.
