Does anybody know of a good plow for my truck? I can't trade up to a 2500 cause of money issues. But I need to be able to plow with this truck. Any advice would be great. I have a 14' with the 8 speed and Hemi. But I have 3.21 gears.

the only thing i would plow with our trucks is a driveway...nothing commercial, or that money you are saving by not going with a 2500 will be going towards repairs.

That said snowdogg, snowbear, snowsport, k2 all make medium duty plows with 1500 setups.

Those gears might not be fun plowing though, not sure with the 8 speed

My brother in law had a 05 Ram and plowed up until it had 165,000 miles. It had a plow from day one. He never had issues. So are the Gen 4's just not as beefy?

I just got quoted almost 5k for a boss plow for my 2016 2500. I'll be looking around for something cheaper.

Do a search on this....the owners manual says NOT to do it.

Here is a cut & paste from your 2014 owners manual, pages 591 & 592:

SNOWPLOW
1500 Models Only
NOTE: Do not use this model vehicle for snowplow applications.

WARNING!
Snowplows and other aftermarket equipment should not be added to the front end of your vehicle. The airbag crash sensors may be affected by the change in the front end structure. The airbags could deploy unexpectedly or could fail to deploy during a collision resulting in serious injury or death.

CAUTION!
Using this vehicle for snowplow applications can cause damage to the vehicle.

WARNING!
Attaching a snowplow to this vehicle could adversely affect performance of the airbag system in a collision. Do not expect that the airbag will perform as described earlier in this manual.

In less than 1/2 of a page, it has 2 warnings and a caution, as well as telling you not to do it.

I'd say doing it is not a good idea.

Do the 1500 have electric power steering?

Plowing with any IFS is pretty shaky ground to begin with.

But how many years on an individual vehicle? Not saying it's not possible, just that it's not advisable. Way too many links in the suspension geometry.

What type of plowing will you do? Driveways or parking lots?

I would save my 1500 and spend a few thousand on a older, mechanically sound, rust-bucket 3/4 ton for plowing. That way when I got sucked into a ditch or that branch scrapes the side or I throw that chain, I'm not so worried about it. You could also hang a lot more plow off the front of a 3/4 ton.

I have known a couple people who plowed with 1500 trucks. One friend from Massachusetts used a 2013 Ram to do a long rural road he and a few other people lived on. Another coworker used his Chevy to do driveways. I even heard about people modifying the front ends of their 1500 Tahoe's and putting plows on them. Never heard of anyone having issues, especially with structural integrity. Having said that you have to remember anything can happen so take the risk as you see fit. But as others have said I would not plow commercially with a 1500. Just wouldnt take that risk myself. Of course Mopar is going cover their ass and say don't plow with it in the manual. So if anything does break on it kiss goodbye any warranty you might have.

Yeah, I should have specified commercially. If I was just clearing my own driveway, no problem.

No way would I beat the hell out of my 14 with a plow. I bought this to clear about 1500 ft of Michigan driveways in the winter. Darn handy around the place all year around.

You can find them used for $6K up. This one as you see it $8900 including plow.
