I've officially owned a 1500, 3500 and am now the proud owner of a 2013 Ram 2500...! I purchased a new travel trailer a few months back that I thought my 1500 Ram could pull... After about half a dozen pulls and too many white knuckle experiences, I decided to get into a 2500 and wow... what a difference... seriously... left me grinning ear to ear by the improvement in towing....

I decided to go with a 2013 Big Horn (mine is equipped the same as a Laramie minus the leather seats) and saved about $5,000 -- love it!

Gas Mileage seems much improved as well from 2012.

Awesome! If you don't mind me asking, what type of travel trailer? I'm looking to upgrade to a travel trailer and am considering a RAM 1500 as a tow vehicle. It seems like the 1500's have plenty of tow capacity but are light on payload capacity in the higher end models.

Congrats on the new 2500. I made the same move last week for the same reason. I am looking forward to taking our first trip with the truck in a few weeks.

Nice, how much did your trailer weight? I'm looking at get a Laramie with the 3.92 rear, I don't have the trailer yet but soon.

Our Jayco 267bhs has an unloaded weight of 5400lbs and dry hitch weight of 675lbs. Loaded she is pushing 7000lbs total and hitch weight over 800 lbs.

Don't get me wrong, the Hemi had plenty of power to pull it and adding Airlift really helped with the ride but for longer distance trips it just felt like transmission was not really up for the task. Mine had 3.55 gears and I understand the the 3.92's make a big difference when towing.

Sorry for the hijack Coloradan...

Looks great! I have a 13 Laramie 1500 and am looking to purchase a jay I 28dsbh and am concerned about exactly what u described. I am thinking my 1500 might not be enough due to payload issues. I think I will be doing the same as u and going to a 2500

First , thanks everyone for the nice comments. I'm excited about the change... I'm still in the place of asking my wife if I can go run errands just so I have an excuse to jump in the truck and drive around ;)

My travel trailer has a GVW of #8500 and dry weight of #7400. The hitch weight was at #890 empty and around #1000 loaded which put me right at my max cargo limit. My 1500 was a crew cab w/ 3.92. The trailer itself didn't seem bad to pull as far as power was concerned however, being 36' 11" in length, the trailer pulled the truck all over the place when it swayed even with sway control and a WDH setup.

I hope this helps!

Congrats on the purchase!
A 2500 would be ideal for that trailer- you'll be happy for years to come.

Haha! The original post had me nervous because I haven't hitched our trailer up yet, but now I see the trailer you had makes mine look like a tow behind tool shed! That's a monster for ANY half ton IMO. Good trade up :)
