I have a 2013 ram 1500 3.6 v6 with the 8 speed tranny. I've had this whining/ winding(like a turbo) noise coming from my front end. The noise happens from about 10mph and on up, even on highway speeds. My trucks performance has not changed.

My truck is completely stock.

I read up on the forums about the transmission lines resonating noise into the radiator shroud and to fix it with a foam spacer, which I tried but with no success.

Does anyone else have this problem or know the fix to this problem of mine? Lol.

Thanks.

Front differential pinion bearing or ring gear noise.

Honestly, it could be the rear diff as well, just that the sound is traveling up the drive shaft.

@Riccochet - My truck is not a 4x4, does that make any difference?

Not really. It could be the rear diff then. It's hard to tell where noises like that are coming from since sound and vibrations can travel through the parts, frame and body.

I just traded my 2013 because the rear diff was going out. Making a whining noise like you describe. It was hard to pin point where it was coming from at first. I put the rear on jack stands and put it in gear. Could hear it plain as day from outside and under the truck.

Many yrs back had a K5 Blazer 406 ci sbc 4WD NP205 XFer case, lifted 12" making a similar noise. Sounded like the front rear. Good (bat **** crazy) friend tied a rope around his ass and my seat and leaned waaay out listening. Noise was NOT from the front but was the back rear. Sound travels thru metal. PS: he's too old for that now so don't ask for his #.
